Poll to solve a dispute with my gf. Is Friday considered part of "the weekend"? - by io organic industrialism

It sounds ridiculous even asking it...
I contend that Friday is not considered part of the weekend. The weekend consists only of Saturday & Sunday. However my girlfriend happily informed me this evening that "everybody in america" says that Friday is considered part of the weekend. Because it is "at the week's end"..
So humour me and please vote.

I don't know what the official crap is, but technically you are probably right... But probably most people consider Friday part of the weekend because it's the end of your work week (well, not for everyone but you get what I mean)
I've always considered Friday part of the weekend, but whatever floats your boat as one of my teachers said.
Edit: Damn you demagogue. Oh well, I don't care.

No, of course not. But that is no goddamned reason to stay sober son!

In fact, Friday is not one of the two days that either begin the week, or end it. Culturally, Friday is lumped in, but only once the workday part is left behind. To many university students, Friday is part of the weekend because they likely have no classes. Friday NIGHT may be considered a part of the weekend, but technically, the weekend starts at midnight, or Saturday morning. Scientifically, she's incorrect. Socially, she's not.

Friday night is, in my opinion, the start of the weekend.

Technically speaking the last day of the end of the week is Saturday.
Sunday is the first day of the week.

Most people work from Monday to Friday, having Saturdays and Sundays off. Friday is definitely not the weekend. The weekend is Saturday and Sunday. Of course there's Friday evening, but that's not yet 'the weekend'. Friday is a regular work day, that's it.
But that's just my opinion. The dictionary built in the OSX says:
Quote:
weekend |ˈwēkˌend|
noun
the period from Friday evening through Sunday evening, esp. regarded as a time for leisure : she spent the weekend camping | [as adj. ] a weekend break.
• (also long weekend) this period plus one or two days immediately before or after : the long holiday weekend.
verb [ intrans. ] informal
spend a weekend somewhere : he was weekending in the country.
So go figure. This dilemma may shake the very foundations of our society!

Assuming a normal Mon-Fri, 9-5 workweek...
The weekend starts after work Friday and ends Sunday night when you go to bed early enough to be refreshed enough for work again on Monday.

Practically, yes. But technically, no.
I have to vote "no" in the poll, even though a "weekend at the lake" typically means leaving friday night.
