Between this and your post in the rape thread, it's become clear to me that the inbreeding has gotten completely out of control.
Oh yeah? Well if I wasn't so busy flirting with my sisters all the time, I just might pop you a knuckle sandwich for that remark!
You don't know me anyway, for your information, I live in the biggest, most advanced city in Montaner! We have over 1000 people in my city! And a wal-mart! we even have like 2 gas stations! so quit being such a nugget, bucko!

To me, the definitive criticism of journalism was given by Kierkegaard in the 1850s and nothing has really changed since then. It's the nature of the whole enterprise to be salacious and appeal to the baser parts of being human, and to reduce the epic happenings of the world to tired soundbites reinforcing superficial norms. You can only really trust people who have a stake in the activity itself to give you an accurate impression of what's going on and put it in real human terms, especially in politics.
That said, I follow the news everyday because I think it's important to be in touch with the world. One just has to be able to get to the core of a story and skim off the crap ... I'm congenitally suspect of what they're literally saying, but I think about what's probably really going on behind the scenes to give rise to what we see on the surface that they're reporting. The crap is like an arrow pointing to a deeper truth, that very often has an entirely different spin. It's just unfortunate that not everyone reads the news with the same suspicion.
Most people don't watch the news with the same suspicion. The trouble is with mass media (read: corporate media) they report the so called news with a decided spin, and I'm not just talking about Fox news either but ABC,CBS,NBC. 75% of Americans are against the Iraq war now, now tell me, when was the last time you saw anything on a a major news channel actually against the war? They report the occasional skirmish, nothing more.
When all of a countries news outlets have the same spin, its called propaganda. Honestly, if it wasn't for the internet most Americans would have no idea what was really going on. My little tiff with SE earlier notwithstanding I check BBC news every week, they are a lot better at reporting the facts than American news outlets. Thats a fact, and a sad commentary on the state of American journalism today.

We've been waiting for that to happen for years. Most of us have given up already.
