The media has a ridiculous amount of influence in our politics. They frame our political discourse in any way they want. And because they are focused on ratings rather than issues (boring) they go for the cheap entertainment and controversy.
The internet has changed this dynamic some, but much of the political online discourse is on the same controversy that's on TV and there are very few that are focusing on real issues or news.
There have been some attempts to have real news and real discussion. Democracy Now! is a good example, but it hasn't gotten real traction.
What do you think the role of the media will be a decade from now? Will it ever return to a responsible, respectable sense of journalism or is it a lost cause. Will the internet dwarf TV News coverage much like TV did with the print media.
Also, where do you guys get your news? Are there some good sites I've been missing?

Your political post lacks entertainment value.

I think politics is a lost cause. Who cares about the media? Countries are too big, the populations are too big. It's nigh on impossible to actually make a difference.

heh, funny you posted this, I was watching a Hannity and Colmes archive episode from 1999...it's amazing how it hasn't changed at all, even from before 9/11 (Hannity has a little more grey now and Colmes is sporting some new wrinkles)
other than that...media doesn't change...we had the internet back then, media is media is media is media...can't get around it, it really just depends on which country you get it from.

Isn't this a funny attitude to take in a country that is currently blessed with 3 pretty strong presidential candidates?
I mean, god: you could be living in a country like Italy ...

I didnt think subjeff was from America (assuming you were even talking about the US).

I live in the UK and we don't even HAVE a president. Well, sometimes the PM tries to be a bit presidential but thats when things have gone REALLY wrong.

Yeah, you're right, and I did make that assumption without any particular reason for it ...
