Hey guys, remember way back in the day when we listened really hard to Thief 2's cutscene to see just what the creepy little girl was saying? I might need your help doing the same thing with something else.
I'm a slam poet; it's a kind of performance poetry done in many major cities in North America, and it's growing. If you're even in Vancouver, you could probably even see me perform. Anyways, it got out, and the English class I help teach now wants me to perform for them, to show them what it's like. Welp, all of my pieces are all obscene or have things teachers wouldn't want students to have, everything from anti-prudist extremism to lots of irremoveable swearing to an anti-Atkins I-eat-what-I-fucken-want message. So, I'm doing a cover. It's a dedication to all the world-changers, etc.
Problem: this guy, as wonderful as he is, has Micromachine Man syndrome. hetalksreallyfastlikethisfrommatel. And, in this recording, he seems to have fly-girls. So there's background noise and he's speed-slamming. It's fine for most of the piece, but all of a sudden he starts speeding. Can you help me decipher this short riff?
There's two clips I can't quite decipher.
The first clip is (
http://prosplace.homestead.com/files/STL_clip.mp3) here.
Here's what I got from it so-far, the square- and triangular-brackets being places where I'm not sure.
--------------
‘You ever been
Wheeled in, reamed out, picked on, put down,
Ever been around to hear the sound of your
Own heart-break
Stop to take the time to take [ ]
‘You ever been seen and not heard
‘You ever <heard> the line for those who try to find some way to
Define what you are [...] from afar
<Stand out, stand up, speak up for thou>
‘You ever been told you're too young, you're too old
From the soul-sat line,
We look at the Bible
We gotta receive it.
Beat the deadlines.
So don't try to define it. This is time we will find.
So don't try to define it. This is time we will find.
So don't try to define it. This is time we will find.
[ ] to allow and now you know why
-----------------------
(
http://prosplace.homestead.com/files/STL_clip_2.mp3) Here's the 2nd clip. I know most of it, there are just a couple references I can't decipher, partly because he's the new micromachine man and partly because there are a few references I don't quite know. Something about someone shutting down a park? A sound that got two guys banned from the USA?
-----------------------
...because he said the Earth was round
For the two [ ] who found the sound that got them banned in the USA
And imagine if we could still hear John Lennon play
This is for the somebody who stood up today and said “No”
For every <armarole> who shut down the <park>
This is for Salman Rushdie
Mahatma Gandhi,
You, me, this city, this country
We will always have a choice
When we stand up to the crowd and tell the world,
“This is my voice
There are many like it
But this one is mine”.
*edit* By the way, I should give props to the poet, even here: he's Shane Koyzcan, one of the best slam poets in the world. Fuck, Margaret Atwood opened for him at a show once.

Sorry, I'm no help on the deciphering front, but out of curiosity you meant Vancouver, B.C., right? Not WA? If so (the former) when / where do you preform and when / where does this stuff usually go on?

Vancouver BC, yep! Actually I'm going right now. =) I'm not performing tonight, because it seems I have go-3-minutes-overtime syndrome, and I'm not nearly as good when I don't have my stuff memorized. I have instructions for my friend Jeremy (stage-name "Superboy") to punch me if I ever go up there with an unmemorized poem again. Whether during or after my performance, his discretion.
It happens every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of each Month, at Cafe Deux Soleil on Commercial Drive. Look it up, it's a good show, some more than others.

For the two [ ] who found the sound that got them banned in the USAI
think what he said was (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_Live_Crew) "2 Live Crew found the sound that got them banned."

You're right, I came to the same conclusion.
I filled in a lot of holes. The only part that's got me baffled now is the riff. Here's the newest version:
‘You ever been
Reeled in, reamed out, picked on, put down,
Ever been around to hear the sound of your
Own heart-break
Stop to take the time to take [ ]
‘You ever been seen and not heard
‘You ever blurred the line for those who try to find some way to
Define what you are to the music from afar
From the limits of the heart
And its moving apart
<Stand out, stand up, speak up for thou>
‘You ever been told you’re too young, or too old
From the soul-sat line,
We look at the Bible
We gotta receive it.
Beat the deadlines.
So don’t try to define it. This is time we will find.
