Well, now this is interesting. I've started to do Redoran quests for the treasury babe in Vivec - can't remember her name, sorry - and she first had me kill a Telvanni who showed up behind me (after I taunted him, of course) and now she wants me to kill Raynasa Rethan of House Hlaalu - in my own stronghold!!! Isn't that strange? So, does that mean that stronghold would have existed in the game whether I'd built it or not. Very curious.

Yup, it means exactly that ;) I think each House's stronghold gets built (and upgraded) at the same time yours does. Regardless, I think you'll find someone lording it over your own stronghold when you get there.

Okay, Forsythe - I think I may have hit my first real glitch - Odirinian. The Hlaalu quest was to go and kill the Telvanni. The Telvanni quest from Aryon was to go and kill the Hlaalus. I'd already done the Hlaalu quest and I can't get Aryon to give me any more chores. He won't accept that I've killed the mage.
Might have to go back with another character and see how this would play out that way.

Interesting... this is one of the few items I was thinking of when I mentioned my doubts. Aryon actually wants you to kill the Hlaalu, btw. Also, you may be able to get enough prestige to get Magister w/out him by doing all the other Telvanni's quests (Mouths, the other Masters, etc).

Except for the final stage. Which annoys me as even if I kill the owner I cannot upgrade anymore.

Hmmm, Forsythe - so then I wonder what'd happen if I went back and killed all of the Hlaalu, taunting them first of course, and then reported back to Aryon. It might be interesting to try it. And I'll keep going with all the other Telvanni quests. Was that going to be the last one from him?

It's worth a shot, Christi; I think they may disble themselves after you finish for one side or the other, but it's worth a try. And nope, (
http://morrowind.ttlg.com/spoiler/telvanni/aryon.shtml) he's got ~5 more for you (don't worry, spoilers are hidden like our 'spoil' tag, here on TTLG)

Well, Forsythe, I am officially giving up on this plug in. The Hlallu killings didn't work, and now Uncle Crassius won't give me anything else to do either (even when we're discussing slavery. So, I'm throwing in the towel on Grlyn and have already started a new character, a wood elf (male) this time. I haven't had to get past Mistress Dratha as a male yet. Should be interesting. I'm going to join the Telvanni house this time around and see where it goes.
Thanks!

I'm kinda sorry I was right... :p Well, luck all the same with Dratha :ebil: (btw, if you can't convince her, you can always kill her for the same result)

Oh, the fatal Odirnan (sp?) bug. You can get around it with some creativity.
The problem: Telvanni mage wants you to kill Redoran invaders. Redoran witchhunters want you to kill Telvanni necromancer and/or rescue their buddy (forget which).
Solution: Hmm...dang now I've forgot the details. I think you rescue the girl, get the thanks from the Redoran group leader, kill her, then report to Mr. Wizard for his thanks, then kill him. If you actually have the Redoran quest (I always was sent as part of a Telvanni quest), you might have problems.
A key principle is that you don't need to take every quest...if one master gives you a chump quest, you can work for the other masters, and get promoted past the problem quest eventually. I don't think you can skip Odirnan with Telvanni, though.
[edit] Probably gotta talk to the mage first before you start freeing/killing. [/edit]
