OK, so, what type of major choices can people think of, and what kind of consequences are there for those choices? This is for my own edification, as there are some things I'll probably never get around to doing, but would like to know the result of, like letting Jock get blown up.
hings I can think of are:
Letting Levedev live and killing Navarre, or him dying and killing her later with the kill phrase.
Warning Jock about the bomb or letting him blow up.
Playing as a pacifist or killing everyone.
Letting Paul live, or letting him die.
What else can you people think of, and what will happen in each instance?

Characters who appear in different places later, or say or do different things, depending on whether you kill them or rescue them include (and this is not a full list, probably) -
Massive Spoiler List
Sandra Renton - rescue from thug / give Gilbert Renton a weapon and let him kill JoJo (Sandra stays in the 'Ton) / Kill JoJo yourself (Sandra goes to Eugene, Oregon, and meets J.C. near Vandenberg)
Maggie Chow - kill in Apartment / let her live (she appears in the Versalife Labs talking to Bob Page, and at the bottom of the U.C. chamber)
Walton Simons - kill in the Ocean Labs / don't kill him there (he appears at Area51, in the Communications building - If J.C. kills the NSF troops in UNATCO HQ, Page's comments just before meeting in the Ocean Labs are different)
Smuggler - After talking to Dowd, warn Smuggler or he dies in the raid
Paul Denton - During the UNATCO raid on Paul's apartment, you must not leave by the window or Paul dies. Killing too many NSF on Liberty Island will annoy Paul. Killing the NSF commander will really annoy Paul.
Stanton Dowd - Bring him ambrosia from the PRCS Wallcloud (not sure, haven't tested whether he dies... I assume he does if you don't give him ambrosia at the mausoleum)
Jock - Kill Everett's mechanic or Jock dies at Area 51.
Jaime Reyes - Taking him to Hong Kong is rewarded with an Augmentation Upgrade Cannister. I forget what you get if you leave him as a spy in UNATCO HQ
Tiffany Savage - Gary Save will award J.C. an Augmentation Upgrade Cannister if Tiffany is saved. I'm not sure if the 500 skill points are dependant upon her rescue, or simply completion of the Ocean Lab mission
Anna Navarre - Options in the 747 include killing Lebedev / letting Anna kill Lebedev / killing Anna instead of Lebedev. Anna makes no secrets about her preference for killing NSF.
Gunther Hermann - Giving him a weapon (even just a knife) in the bottom of the Statue will flag Gunther as respecting J.C.
Morgan Everett - Will comment on Morpheus, Lucius DeBeers, and the odd mechanic if you have met with those NPCs.
Guther's Killphrase, no?

Correct.
Also, I understand it is possible to let Anna live. This will alter Gunther's comments through the rest of the game.
Not killing the NSF troops in the first mission or two will also alter what Carter says to you and the equipment loadout you receive from him.

Not sending the NSF distress signal after finding the proof in the basement adds some different dialogue, but it's a
dead-end.
TheGreatGodPan on 2/9/2005 at 21:57
I didn't know it was possible not to send it. That's what I would have done if I knew, because I felt shoe-horned into it and it annoyed me.
TheGreatGodPan on 4/9/2005 at 01:54
So you can read the evidence and not send the message? Then do you just go back to the apartment? What makes UNATCO want to kill you if you don't actually do anything against them?
Janmanden on 6/9/2005 at 03:09
That's the dead end of it. You have to go back and send the signal, whether you like it or not, if you want to proceed.

It's part of the plot, for crying out loud. If you want to ride in a spaceship, play a space game. If you want to kill orcs, play a fantasy RPG. If you want to play a game that has complete unscripted freedom of player action, then don't play a videogame. They ALL have things you CAN and CAN'T do. Yeah, people say DX has a sense of freedom which is lacking in most (argueably all) games created prior to it, but just because you have to send the signal to continue along the plotline of DX doesn't mean it "boxed you in" or anything. If you want to play a game in which you don't send the signal, then don't. Put down the game, and pretend you were a UNATCO stooge the whole time, or create your own game in which you can change your decision. Or find a mod created by someone with that idea. A mod even already exists (search the mod database for its progress) called UNATCO Born. Complaining that you have to send the signal is like complaining that you have to get off the dock on Liberty Island.
