I hear you. I too am an old, grumpy, hard to please, CRT hold out. So much so, that after reading for hours and hours about the current LCD state of the art (again) and looking at monitor screens until my eyes crossed, watered, got gummy and blurred so I couldn't see RL let alone pixelated simulations, I have decided to chuck it all and get another refurbished and professionally color calibrated (
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-GDM-FW900-Widescreen-Trinitron-Monitor/dp/B00004YNSR/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) Sony GDM-W900 - 24" CRT Display. The refurbisher is just a few miles away and offers a warranty & is giving me credit on the reusable parts from my old monitor. None of the IPS or PLS monitors come close to the quality of the image and response that this old boat anchor provides. Maybe by the time that this one goes belly-up LCD technology will have improved to equal the state of the art of 10 years ago with CRTs. I can hope. Meanwhile I can kick the inevitable need for a LCD decision down the road a bit just because I happen to live close to one of the last sources for these reliable great CRTs.

I'm giving you "user experience" from the perspective of a very grumpy, picky user who is almost impossible to please.
And that will be one of the very few times I would agree with you, coming from the same grumpy/picky viewpoint.
