I've become such a size whore. As such I recommend the Samsung T27A300.

I still stand by Dell Ultrasharps. I would actually go so far as to say they're the best affordable LCDs you can get. Best $250 I ever spent -- I've played Thief, Deus Ex, Bioshock, Afraid of Monsters, Cry of Fear, Dishonored, anything that does well on a good CRT is almost perfect on my Ultrasharp.

What the hell have I been saying this whole thread? Ultrasharps, man! Go for the Ultrasharps!

Does anyone have anything to say about any of the specific monitors I mentioned
* SAMSUNG Series 9 S27B970D
* ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD LED-lit Super-IPS
* Dell U2713HM-IPS-LED CVN85 27-Inch
* Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch
A quick google of the above monitors, gave me the following.
*
Samsung - £125Its a PLS based panel, which is samsung's take on IPS technology. Unfortunately the image quality isn't as good as a genuine IPS based panel, in fact true to Samsung's usual MO with monitors its not that good at all. That coupled with the fact its has a glossy screen, and you get what you pay for - my recommendation is to avoid. (no review, not worth the effert)
*
Asus - £450, This is an WLED backlit S-IPS professional monitor, it has an insane screen res of 2560*1440, its has a superb matt finish to the screen, Its is a nice looking monitor, and the only fly in the ointment might be the higher than normal input lag. But this is subjective to every user, as in you wont know till you try ((

*
Dell U2711 - £550, (dont bother with the U2713, its inferior to the 2711) The dell like the Asus is an IPS based panel, but the dell has a H-IPS which is better than the one in the Asus. It has good black levels, and response times. The fly in the ointment with this monitor and its something I absolutely hate (because there is no need for it), is you may end up getting a monitor with some back light bleed. The one in the review did and its was very noticeable. But, this could have just been from a bad batch etc. - ((

So its a toss-up betweem the Dell and the Asus.

The problem DT is you haven't backed up your shouting, sorry recommendation with some facts. For starters not all dell ultrasharp monitors are made equal, but let put some basic facts out there for the layperson. When a Dell monitor has 'Ultrasharp' in the model name it generally means the monitor has a matt finish, has a low dot pitch and is generally but not always an IPS based panel.

You forget that all LCDs are crap. Ultrasharps are the least crap.

Sometimes, I wish you'd back up your facts and figures with something interesting to read.
Still got my Dell IPS. It's awesome like a prize winning ferret disrupting a best-in-show poodle competition.

The thing that worries me about Dell is their deceptive advertising. They say this in the advert for the U2713H: "... each monitor arrives with a certified color-calibration factory report." From reading user feedback, it seems that while this is strictly true, that is, you do get a certified color-calibration factory report, it is deceptive in that it is not a color-calibration factory report specific for the monitor they shipped to you! Instead it is a color calibration report which is identical for all monitors that they ship. The implication that they actually individually color calibrate and validate those color calibrations for each monitor turns out to be false and misleading. I don't like doing business with folk who behave like that.

Eh? fair enough... I then point you to the many threads on this forum regarding monitors, where I have done online research and actual testing! So IMHO, I do actually know more about monitors than your average punter. And regarding DT's post, the point I made was just because someone says their monitor is good doesn't make it so.

Exactly and if you look at the TFT review I think the chap said as much.
The best thing to do if you have the money, is buy the Asus and the Dell U2711 and test them side by side. Its what I did a couple of years back, the thread for which are I think in this forum section.

Here's your snifter of brandy. You have to remember that I hate LCDs. I have hated LCDs for years and years, because every single one ever simply did not meet my ludicrously high standards, not without costing a million bucks anyway. LCDs are crap. They're all crap. Nothing will ever meet the fidelity of a high-end CRT, not for a very long time.
But last year when I bought my new computer, I tried playing Deus Ex Human Revolution on a CRT and it just wasn't doing it justice. So I decided it was time to take the plunge. I did a lot of research and came up with an answer. The Dell U2211H is a
fantastic monitor for the money -- it very nearly meets everything I'm looking for. It even plays nice with Thief. I'm sure some models of the Ultrasharp might be a bit iffy (namely the TFT ones, but if you buy a TFT you've got nobody to blame but yourself) but ffs don't sit there and whine that I'm not paying attention to "facts" when I'm giving you "user experience" from the perspective of a very grumpy, picky user who is almost impossible to please.
