Don't worry Timmy, I'm sure you'll be half the man he is some day. Just gotta keep on hating liberals on internet forums for a few more years and I'm sure you'll gain his aprooval and then - finally - he'll stop buying you dresses for your birthdays. Hang in there. :thumb:

The references to SPCA (rather than RSPCA) and cents make me doubtful.

I will repeat what Shayde said...Shut it! Please don't ruin this thread with petty insults. :grr:
I have not been much of a cat owner but after I moved into this house, they seemed to find me. It seems the locals do not neuter their cats and every spring I get a new kitten or two appear on my doorstep. I live in a 100 acre forest so there is plenty of play room. Some are friendly and some are not but I feed them, get them fixed, try to find them homes and now enjoy the company of 9 outdoor cats.
My most recent adoption is a friendly, light grey tiger stripped male. I named him Spot. He went missing 5 days ago so I hope someone like Papy or Shayde has him. In the meantime I will continue to check the local shelters and hope to find him.

No sympathy for the number of homeless people who are mentally ill or the young people who have run away from abusive homes then? You do know that it's not all work-shy layabouts enjoying themselves living on the streets, at risk of violence and abuse and a severely reduced life expectancy?

I know the feeling. I sometimes think there must be some invisible sign only cats can see saying 'Free Food - All cats welcome - Very gullible humans' :D Not that I mind, although my cats aren't so pleased at my unfaithfulness.

Cats often have more than one person feeding them - even cats that have a home. Apparently lots of cats have more than one 'owner' and many owners never planned to get a cat, one just turned up. Hopefully your kitten is just spending time with someone else.

Koki : No. I was born in France and now live in Canada (Montréal).
I know British people have a reputation of being more humane toward animals, unfortunately it seems to me they are an exception in this world.
There was a guy living near my sister's house whose fun was to shoot cats from its window with a pellet gun. Some people complained to the police, but from what I know nothing have been done except for a warning about using pellet guns in a populated area.
Right now, the SPCA here is trying to raise awareness against puppy mills. Unfortunately, very few people care. Sometimes they succeed in closing some extreme cases, but it's simply because of complaints from neighbors about bad smell and noises.
I'm not sure what the situation is in the UK, but from what I heard, I believe British people are an example to follow.
Phatose : I agree with you. I think it was my duty to microchip and to spay my cat (even if I never let it out of the house alone), but for many people, the $200 it cost is too much and I can understand that.
To me, the only viable solution is to subsidize spaying and neutering, and some basic pet heath care system for people who can't afford it. I don't think it would cost that much for society. In fact, I wonder if putting a little money on a basic pet health care system, would not save a bigger amount on treatments because of psychological related problems. A pet is a very good way to alleviate stress, which is the cause, or at least an aggravating factor of a lot of medical problems.
aguywhoplaysthief : When I decided to adopt a cat, I went to a pet shelter. In that way, the pet shelter was a service to me. Also, a lot of homeless people have dogs, and those people really care for them. Sometimes, an animal shelter will give some basic treatment for free to a homeless person's dog. They will also give food to the homeless person's dog. It may seems strange to you, but this kind of things will psychologically help the person far more than a bed in a shelter (particularly because a lot of homeless persons view shelters as a prison). It can give the homeless person a sense of living in a more humane society and it can help him integrate in this society. Think about it.

sorry to hear:( I've lost pets before, it sucks. AGWPT, I agree that people should be helped before animals, and I generally dislike any trace of personification, but I absolutly disagree on the homeless issue. If my grandpa could afford and get a 4.0 in college in Engineering, work a fulltime job, and raise a family of 7 kids and a stay-at-home wife, all with a wooden leg since before any of his kids were born, the homeless can survive on their own in the country which offers the most opportunity in the world, and the most food too:P Not meaning to start an argument, I just get irritated with the amount of handouts they get sometimes
Go and stay 1 month sleeping on the streets and then come back and talk to me. Because you obviously have no fucking idea what your talking about you spoiled rotten kid. Oh and don't ask for any handouts while your out there either, I wouldn't want some other spoiled kid getting irritated about it, now would we?
