I just got Morrowind a few days ago....and I cant play it!! It starts up fine....and I can begin the game....but EVERYTIME I leave the first building off the boat....the game crashes to desktop....I have no idea why this happens.....I have the US Collectors edition with the patch, but it did this problem even without the patch

Makes usre you have the latest drivers - new WHQL 30.82 are out from NVidia. Start there. Hope this helps.

Also, make sure the DirectX audio acceleration is at it's lowest.
The no safedisk exe is also known to help (see pinned thread for where to get it).
