I'm sorry for starting another thread on the old 'videos in Thief won't work' subject, I promise I have looked at the FAQs (and have scoured the internet for solutions too) but since I'm not particularly technically minded, I'd like some advice thats more specific to my own problems, if someone would be so kind :) (the FAQ guide I read is for XP. If there is a similar guide for Vista, then I would be much obliged if anyone could direct me to it.)
Right, well, to start, I'm running Vista (the 32 version, I do believe) with a dual-core processor (though Thief is only using one). I am trying to sort out the issues in Thief Gold. I got over the installation and crashing problems, and the game works fine, apart from the videos. They worked the very first time I ran the game, but ever since - nada.
The first thing I tried was running the game as an Administrator, but as soon as I tried to play the intro video, the game crashed, when before it had been nice as pie. I'm running the game under compatibility mode for Windows 2000, if that helps - although I'm reluctant to change it unless absolutely necessary, as I don't want the game to stop working.
I tried reinstalling the codecs with 'iv5play.exe' like the FAQ guide suggests. However, after a loooong time of looking through my files, it told me that I already have a newer version of Indeo 5 or something along those lines. I carried on regardless, and for giggles and guffaws I tried to play the intro video, to see if the problem had been solved. No such luck, unfortunetly.
I read somewhere that the K-Lite codec pack would solve my problem, so I downloaded and installed it. It changed nothing though. It's currently uninstalled.
I haven't tried 'Scrooge's Permanent Movie Fix' or the 'third option' in the FAQs, since it said they were for XP. Like I said, I'm not good with computers, and as such wouldn't know how to adapt those guides to Vista. If those fixes CAN be used in Vista, can someone take me through how in layman's terms please?
I'm sure there must be many more things to try, but personally, I'm bewildered. As such, any help at all would be greatly appreciated! The videos won't even play in Media Player or VLC Player, so I can't just minimize the game in between missions to watch. Even if someone could tell me how to play them in Media Player, I could cope with doing that.
Again, I'm really sorry for dragging up an old topic. Also, come to think of it, I'm sorry for how long this post is. But if you're still reading, thank you so much for bearing with me. I'd be very grateful if someone could provide me with a solution. If you need more information about my computer or whatever, just ask and I'll try my best to answer.
Many thanks in advance :)
