Here's a few pointers:
Make a wood elf and have the sign of the uhh, the one that stunts magicka, atronarch or something. Then give yourself all melee skills for primary, blunt/spear/axe/long/short, etc, and all thief skills in secondary, acrobatics/security/sneak/ etc.
Then you'll be uber and can dominate the world with your inept grasp of communication!

:erm: nice help Tuco . . .
Anyway, there's really no best way of creating a character. It depends on how you want to play the game. After all this is an open-ended game (to a certain extent).
Personally I had about 6 different characters before I found which skills and which guilds I wanted to join. If you'll take my advice just head straight into the game and make mistakes. That's how I found out which characters I like best.
Of course if you want to be a magic user then having major skills like destruction, conjuration is important and a high elf or breton would give increased magika.
If you want an all purpose character choose a dark elf, cos there generally good at most things. I think having a good melee skill is essential. I prefer long blades and there are some nice ones out there.
If you want more detailed help check out the Morrowind sites. Try the Morrowind summit at Gamespy or others, or just post specific questions and I'll try to help and others will as well. Im sure pisces, striker or ryushi will help, they live here ;)

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum, but not to the game :).
As it was said here the best way is to go into the game and make mistakes.
Here's what I came up with:
As a race I choose "Blue Elf" or a Nord. Blue Elfs are good at most of things and Nords are indestructable and can kill almost anyone with 3-4 hits of a "good" axe. I haven't tried a bunch of other races, but I certainly would not go again for an Argonian or a Kaljit. Everyone hates them and they cannot wear boots and some helmest which sucks.
10 skills you choose in the beginning are not just a bonusv - they determine how fast you gain levels. So choose skills you thing you'd use often NOT those where you want to have a bonus (If you really need them you can train them later).
I always pick Acrobatics just to raise levels. Either Axe or Long Blade go as my "fighting skills". Alteration is probably the most used magic skill (at least for me). I choose 2 of 3 for my defence skills: Heavy Armour, Medium armour or Block. The rest go for any other magic skills. + I mustn't forget Security. This is the only skill I pick for its bonus value. Very imporatn skill :).
Birth signs (from my pov) do not really matter so I choose any without disadvantages. You chars race probably already has some - y add more?
P.S. No matter what you choose you'd ahve to go through the main quest and there's lots of fighting and running around, so a theif with good mercandise and speachcraft is not likely to go very far. ;)

Welcome, Griff ;)
I'd quibble with a few things you said, btw; most noteworthy is that a thief character won't do. A pure thief, as in "never hits anyone", okay that won't work... that's not the point of the game, after all. On the other hand, if you tack on a bit of Marksman and/or Illusion (Invisibility), then you can get around just fine.
As to never choosing a Khajit or Argonian, that's just personal taste; after a bit, your character is effectively godlike, so boots and helm aren't as important. What becomes important then is whether or not you enjoy playing the type of character you have... because if you get bored with it, you're never gonna finish the game, and the "beast" races are just plain cool. I especially liked playing my Argonian when she took the top rank in the "let's enslave everyone" House (ie: Telvanni)
Edit: Incidentally, would your username's 1st name be "Alex" by any chance? (Morrowind being vaguely like a Dream Park, and all)
Tuco on 10/3/2004 at 22:41
I believe the poster requested a 'good' character, not something that gives you satisfaction of ranking up an entire house in an ironic stand of, 'the slave races enslaves you!'
I agree with Griff... well, I didn't read all his crap he wrote since it was boring, but he's right about the nord, although I've never heard of a 'blue' elf.
Still, my suggestions are best for you, 'X-LEGACY'
Forsythe on 10/3/2004 at 22:44
Mmm.. you've a good point, Tuco; "beast" races are probably best for a 2nd or 3rd run thru the game.
(And I'm pretty sure, given his post in another thread in here, that he meant Dunmer as "blue" elves)
Tuco on 10/3/2004 at 22:45
yeah, and when I'm re-incarnated, I want to come out as a cripple just so I can be like Steven Hawking.
Forsythe on 10/3/2004 at 22:46
I assume you mean crippled physically, as opposed to....
Griff on 10/3/2004 at 22:52
Thanks Forsythe! :)
I have to try that "invisible Argonian archer" :).
I wrote about the way I choose characters. I like Argonians, but I would not live without "Boots of Blinding Speed" and things like that. I agree its important to enjouy the race you're playing :). Forsythe I'm no alex . But I can try to be one :).
To quote Tuco: " agree with Griff... well, I didn't read all his crap ... but he's right about the nord" :) lol! "Blue" is "Dark" Elf. AHve a sence of humour!
