Hi everybody. I've downloaded the Arx demo and have been trying it out and there's some things I don't understand.
1. How do I use weapons? My journal says that the default key for equiping weapons is "enter" or "f". Neither of those work for me. I managed to knock out the goblin guard with my fists, but I'd like to know how to use something more lethal later on.
2. How do I get thru that metal door? I can't find a key anywhere. Honestly I'm not a quitter, but this has had me stumped for quite a while now. At least a hint would be nice.

Hi sneeksie.
1. As far as using weapons are concerned, you will have to equip them first before you can use them in combat. For example, when you come accross a bone, press the F key to arm yourself with it. To go into combat mode, press the TAB key.
2. If your talking about the first portcullis then you must move the cobblestone at the foot of the portcullis and then you can move the iron bars.

You get out through the floor... crouch and hit the grate on the floor with a bone and down you'll go (if that's not where you're stuck, maybe be a bit more specific about *which* metal door.)
Stick with it, and ask questions when/if you get stuck... Arx isn't as intuitive as some other games and takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do it's a GREAT game!! :thumb:

Thanks twisty and MsLedd.
Heh, pretty tricky putting a door there that doesn't open! I'll give that grate a go today. I did figure out how to get thru the first portcullis on my own, but it must have taken me 20 minutes. I spent a long time throwing that cobblestone at it, thinking that would break the bars.
After I posted I discovered that I had to have the bone selected to equip it. It wasn't working because I was picking up and clicking on other stuff in my inventory. When I bring up my inventory display, click on the bone and then hit "enter" and "tab" my dude equips the bone.
I'm really liking this game so far, it has a very dark and gritty atmosphere, which I like. :sly:

Shooting guns and solving puzzles has become a standard for all games, but 'equiping the bone' is the one immersion element that all guys can appreciate.:thumb: Kudos to Arkane's marketing dept.:cheeky:
Just a little joke, BTW.
This game is tough for the newbie, but I remember SS1 being the same way so keep it up. You'll manage fine.

:laff: LOL Aw man. I didn't realize now that sounded when I wrote it. "Equiping the bone" Think it'll catch on? :cheeky: I always wanted to start a catchphrase.
Well I've figured out how to cast spells, cook food and dress my dude, now he keeps dying on me when I try to fight the spiders. And he's always hungry! I guess equiping the bone really works up an appetite :cheeky:

Alright, I've been exploring around, found a knife and some potions, killed some spiders. Now it appears I have to face another goblin guard. Even with my knife and the other prisoner helping me out, I can't kill this goblin. I must have tried a dozen times now. He kills me everytime. It's very frustrating.

Try staying clear of the goblin lord during the stroke power build-up.
BTW the dagger (=knife) _is_ the preferred tool :)

Thanks. I didn't realize I had to hold the mouse button down. I thought that gem was a light indicator like in Thief. I got him in 3 hits this time. It was so simple.
