I've been playing Thief 2 + some FMs in the patched 1.18 Final version just fine. Since recently I've had problems starting newly downloaded FMs, I've reinstalled the game, patched it and cracked it with the same versions, set the compatibility to XP (I use Vista 64) etc., but the game crashes upon starting and a message displays the old "Thief 2 has stopped working". What's missing now??
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have you also downloaded the Video fixes? Either indeo video patch or the DDfix or any other you may have had before?
Does the game itself still run? (HAve you installed it correctly and can play the original T2?)

What do you mean with "cracked"?

I suspect he means he doesn't mind getting banned.

This sounds like either of the following:
# The paths in the cam.cfg/install.cfg have got an error.
# If you using vista you need to disable DEP when using no-cd patch.
I suggest not using the c word when referring to 'patches'

Yes, I've downloaded the DDfix even though I didn't have problems of the sorts before. The game does not run; it crashes once it's started. I've installed it after spec from the CDs, and can't play the original.
I've extensively browsed the Thief FAQ and all the obvious remedies which I'd already provided for since I have been playing it for weeks. Now, after encountering an issue with a FM mission ("Equilibrium") which would keep loading instead of the newly installed ones, I decided to uninstall and reinstall it all, but now the whole game won't work. Why, I wanna know. It's frustrating.
And by "cracked" I mean I used a no-CD crack, patch, whatever, simply not to flip in the discs all the time.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks B.D., I didn't have trouble with DEP before, but I did indeed try disabling it from command prompt, yet Thief still won't run.
For the cam.cfg file, I've tried inserting the game_screen_size line, for install.cfg I don't know. How would I go about to check and fix those, then?

Can't help you with your main problem, but (better late than never), I can cure the Equilibrium (and others that will show up if you fail to follow the advice that follows).
Whenever you quit an FM in Darkloader, ALWAYS INSTALL ONLY one of the originals (TDP or TMA). This clears the savefiles and resets the games to the original settings.
Failing to do so will frequently keep the last FM you played in the save file and that's what you will get even if you are attempting to play one of the original games, or even a new FM.
As for your reinstall. You need to use the uninstall in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, and then manually remove every THIEF folder. Then reinstall.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game once again and just by changing the order of setting files and patching fixes, Thief 2 now works as usual. Bah!
As far as FM downloads, I've never had any problems until after Equilibrium.
Many thanks to all the taffers that replied my post.
Peas owt.
