Smoking in public places hurts other peoples' health. Which is why banning it in public places is a good idea.
I don't care if someone wants to destroy themselves with some idiotic habit; I just don't want to have to smell them while they do it.
They really should ban body odor then too. But If you want to compare something that effects other people as well, what about all the innocent people killed by drunk driving every year? I personally would rather take my chances that 2nd hand smoke might kill me in 50 or 60 years than take my chances with a drunk driver on the road any day.

I'm sure thats a real source of comfort to the families of those killed by drunk drivers.
Of course, I've always wondered, since drinking and driveing is against the law, why do bars have parking lots?
