You can permit the changing of file extensions with norton system optimizer too, but I don't think that this is the case here...

how do i decide wehre garrett will start and what equipment he will have, I am being lazy and not looking it up because it used to be a nightmare in dromed so I'm hoping some one will tell me a simple way :)

For a start point, drop a playerstart actor in your map. Default inventory comes from the level properties (F6).
Seriously, you'll make it a lot easier on yourself if you go through Komag's tutorial.

nomad of the pacific; Thank you a million times, it worked! I simply unchecked "Hide extensions for known file types" in the Tools menu.
Edit: But unfortunately I'm struck with another problem; when "creating" a book, one has to include these weird lines to adjust text position, include line breaks and the like, which isn't too hard to figure out if you read the documentations at Fleshworks and the tutorial... but some things are never explained... like exactly what needs to be written in the text and what doesn't...
For example I tried to copy the text in another book to my own to figure out what I had to write. Some lines seemed unneccesary, such as typing the whole line again in the other three languages. Instead I could just type two "'s and no error occured. But, after deleting the date (2004-04-10) the book was again unreadable. Also, I spotted a "< vc >" in the text, but nowhere in the tutorials could I find what it meant.
I apologize if the above text is hard to understand, I just couldn't figure out another way to write it.
Any help is appreciated, though.

The extra lines are quite handy to anyone not playing in English, as the book will be blank for them otherwise. ;) I haven't done much work on books, but my advice is to copy an existing str file, make your text changes, copy it to all the languages, make sure it works and move on!

Hey again! I'm still a big newb with the editor and today when I was slowly startin on a FM of my own it only took me about 30 minutes to get in trouble
When I tried to make a hallway I ended up with a big hole in one of the walls.
What I did was that I copied the build mesh (at least that's what I think it's called. I barely know the names of any of the stuff in T3Ed yet) from my starting room and used the vertex(?) thingy to resize it to a hallway. Then i clicked Subtract and Build all. And there it is! A hole! :wot:
Help?
Here's a pic. (

Just one more question for now, when I try to create objectives i get a message saying "Cannot create conversation schema; failed to create directory c/program files... ...playergarrett!" and then another saying "Failed to save schema (filename) to disk; it ought to be checked out - make sure it's not still read only." does anyone know what this is about? i definately have [Conversations] allow conversation changes=true in my user.ini.
ps tithain, i can't see the image right now because this damed computers internet blocks a load of sites, i suppose you have left a gap for the wall? also i have some holes in my textures because of bad bsp and some dodgy brush clipping. i doubt this helps!

The bsp error you have there will cause a so called "hall of mirrors". The BSP(that is what your level is build of) of t3ed seems to be the most sensitive that ever existed. You will learn by the time how to get around these bsp bugs, but 'till then you have a long way to go. Just start with (
http://www.planetunreal.com/phalanx/tut%27s/tutorial_bsp.htm) this general tutorial. It was given to me, when I had that problem for the first time and it helped me out pretty much...

To Tithian: I had the same problem, and obviously (as the link StiFU provided says) it's a problem caused by the texturing or something (such as applying an alpha texture on the outside of the room(?) Correct me if I'm wrong.)
But before I knew that I came up with a solution of my own. I simply scaled the brush so it was as long and as tall as the disappearing wall. Then I made it a few feet thick (as to represent a wall) and put it right next to the 'disappearing' wall. Then I pressed "add" so a 'substitute wall' was created instead. It works perfectly, I can texture it and everything like a normal wall. The only change I noticed was that when Garrett swings the dagger at it, no sound is created. A minor inconvenience, yes, but an inconvenience nonetheless

Thanks guys! You're awsome! :D
Anyway, problem solved and I'm moving on.
Now I have about two rooms that is pretty much complete I only have some minor touches left on them.
But on with the Newb questions! :)
How do I make so that I can pick up an item? I've tried to add the property "IsFrobable" and set it to true but still no luck.
I've got some windows but I would like to have some light coming in through them to give them that bloomy look. How do?
How do I make AI sleep in beds and sit in chairs?
