While everyone is talking about fake backdrops, I thought I'd mention something which might or might not be known(?)
I found that when I used fake backdrop, any lights within the skybox were counted toward total lights for a scene. Or something like that - because I had, say, 6 lights in a scene, and only 3 of them affected the light gem. Why? Because the skybox had multiple lights, so I think it was breaking some limitation on lights, somewhere (if one exists - it's the only reason I could think of at the time). When I changed the surfaces NOT to be fake backdrop, and instead just used the face texture, suddenly it appeared correctly as a skybox AND all the lights worked properly.
People might know this already, might be a quirk of the Unreal engine or something, but I sure didn't know it. In fact I'm still not sure I get it.

Hi there, This is probably going to sound like a realy stupid question but I am reletively new to the editor so I need some "special" help. I'm trying to make a church with a triangular roof but for the life of me I cannot get the builder brush to make a triangular shape. I tried the sphere button and gave it 8 sides to see what would happen and my pc crashed :( . Anyhoo if anyone can offer me newb advice on building I would be very grateful...

I use the 2D shape editor - it can be used to make all sorts of unusual shaped brushes (T3Ed doesn't like anything too complex, though)

do i have to download the editor to play new thief 3 fan missions?

No, you don't need the editor to play thief 3 fm's
Install the game
run it once (start a new game, not just to the menu)
Replace your t3main.exe with the editor version of t3main.exe (on GL site below)
install GarrettLoader ((
http://www.potterdevelopments.org.uk/fm/downloads.pl))
point it to your Thief3 install
Download some FMs and point GarrettLoader to your FM folder
Load and Play
You can do other things in there, like install Minimalist, but I think that is accurate. Someone will correct any flaws for me, I'm sure.

*says very slowly* replace t3main.exe with editor version..........
how?
[im stupid  i already tried installin THE thief 3 editor 2 times and both screwy]

Go into your thief3\system folder and rename t3main.exe to t3main_orig.exe or something. Then download the t3main.exe file from the garrettloader site and put in into your system folder
If you have the editor zip file you could extract out the t3mainOptVersion.exe and rename it to t3main.exe
