They're synthetically added surfaces unlike those made by simple brush surfaces. Please read Krypt's navmesh tutorial on the Wiki if you haven't already since adding navmesh with static meshes is an "unclean" thing that makes the whole thing more complicated and big than necessary.

OK thanks. I'll give that a read.

One question, maybe for Flux who had this issue with Cabot: How can I be extra sure that none of my AIs has a purse that is attached randomly and so messes up my loot count?
Oh, and I did a first GL-ready zip of my FM in the makings (although the basic things like objectives, readables, loot etc. should work, i.e. it's playable) yesterday. Mission itself works, included tweaks work (smaller MP-style font, thus more visible rows in the menu, the hopefully slightly improved movement, higher sensory values, show quotes only in loading screen etc. etc.), what doesn't work is saving. It crashes the whole thing without an error message. I'll see what I can find (a mistake in following Komag's tutorial might be the cause... left aside that there are better ones for packaging IIRC). The only thing I remember doing slightly different is trying to set MaxKills to zero for Expert difficulty. Oh, and I haven't included the kernels because I was afraid of them. :p At least not yet.
Ibt file size from 200MB compressed to 130MB overall file size (including everything else) with WinRar. Just wanted to tell you. :)

Right-click the character->Weapon loadout->Make local->Left/Right hip->Remove item (Purse City)
As it goes for the mission size - my mission package (2 maps) is 667 mb compressed to 386 mb (zip - ultra setting) :) I pity for testers who would have to download it :]

Thanks a lot.
I think that's a matter of servers etc., although it would be fine if we had more ibt editing tools and knowledge of how they work. For instance, I don't think your two maps use completely different textures, so if we knew which textures (and from which ibts) the game extracts into DyLo we could do the good old ibt patch for the seond one. Or something... never mind. :erg:

Well, that's exactly what I thought. I guess the whole set of textures in baked into ibt. file once per map :( First part isn't so big, second is almost twice bigger but their size is similar (312 & 320 mb respectively). That's why it's better to push your map size to the limit instead of cutting it to smaller pieces when you have a lot of custom materials (the mistake I made with Crystal Clear Conscience).

So your missions are split because of other reasons? Heck, usually I don't look forward to FM releases but this Cabal thing got my interest. Well, might be a personal matter.

Well, it was chosen in more arbitrary manner. Still it was a good choice in the end as I approached the first shadow vertex limit in both maps (got to raise it a bit). But next time (if there will be time for another mission of mine) I'll try to make it on one map.

Be careful about ibt compression of garrettloader. You know, I compressed valley and it has tons of custom textures when I made the first beta for test. Judith played it without problems but it kept crashing for Beleg. I couldn't find any other solutions for Beleg why it kept crashing(after messing with all kinds of vertex pool stuff). I simply uploaded the uncompressed version for Beleg, it worked without problems. So for the public release, I didn't wanna take any chances and I released an uncompressed version, didn't hear from anyone about the crashing while loading issue.
And for cabot, since it didn't have any custom content, it compressed from 109mb to 15mb. So I assume it must be something with the compression when there is custom content.
Call me bozo, but I don't care about file sizes when it comes to tds fms. People made a big deal about it in 2005, but nowadays I don't think there is a dedicated Thief2 fm player out there who'd say "I'm dying to try out tds fms but I can't download them, file sizes are huge".
As Judith pointed out, he can host them on his own texture site, I can do that on my own. Last time I checked my 6 bucks per month hosting now comes with "unlimited" bandwith. I'm pretty sure there's some limitation to it but even most popular fms are not downloaded by dozens of thousands of players. When I host my own missions on my host, they consume like 0.5% of monthly bandwith.
If it's a problem(bandwith) for the circle, or southquarter or any other thief related hosting site, I'll be happy to offer extra bandwith for them, at any time, I'm sure Judith will help as well.;)

True, sure we have a surplus of server space and bandwidth :)
