So I made a video where I run through Bafford's Manor in Software Mode. Sure, we've come a long way since those days where we all played it in software mode but for me, this was nostalgic to be able to run Thief like this again. :joke:

I actually like software mode, it's also how I first played it.
How did you get it to work in Newdark? The only way I was told was changing "tex_filter_mode" to 0, but it looks worse than the original, the lighting is all blocky and messed up. I'd like to play it in proper software mode again

It wasn't actually with NewDark, I had a separate installation of Thief from GOG and I used the old Dromed to run the game.

Yeah I'm into things like software mode, 640x480 (or less), CRT filters, and all that, exudes a very distinct and classic style that's nigh-on impossible to get across to most PC enthusiast gamers who just want to jack everything up even on 1997 games.
If you install Thief Gold in a separate directory and don't apply the NewDark patch or anything of the sort and just leave it raw, you can get the game to run in software mode. If you press Ctrl+P, it'll bring up a console. In it, you can use a command called "scale_sim_time #" to get the game running at normal speed. You may have to tinker with it depending on the resolution but at least you don't have to deal with that annoying 2x speed bug where everything runs twice as fast as it should.

I don't remember, can old T1\G run in Windows 7 without Ddfix? I've been playing Newdark for so long, my memory's gone bad

Yes because I use Windows 7. I ran software mode through Dromed though, so you may need to do that to get the game in software mode.

TFix actually supports sw mode, just install the legacy executables, use the vanilla exe, and you can enjoy all the map/gamesys/resource fixes. no mod support though. vanilla saves are kept separately, so you can run the NewDark exe from the same install if you want.

So I recently received a request to play through Thief Gold in Software Mode. I'm thinking of giving it a go. :)

Jesus, that voice. That neon green border. That obnoxious grinning cartoon character that never goes away.
Pity, I was actually interested in watching a software-only playthrough. But not this. Not like this. Resist!

I could dig that. You might want to improve your video quality a bit first though; the high compression is obscuring what SW mode is all about.
I'll see what I can do about that. Thanks!

No one said you had to watch it. If you don't like it, that's fine. I'm still gonna do it though.
