Time ago i made a profile on Xpadder to use XBOX 360 controller for Thief Gold. It presents all keys needed for a good Thief experience and in my opinion is well-studied. With some tweaks this could work for PlayStation controller too.

WHAT DOES IT NEED:
Xpadder version 2012.05.01 or higher.
Knowledge of how to open Xpadder profiles and Xpadder controllers.
A little patience and time to learn the keys.
HOW TO USE:
- Open the "(Thief folder)" in the downloaded file, go to "SAVES" then open the properly folder if you have/not have TFix installed. Copy the bindings file in your /Thief/SAVES folder.
- Place the content of Xpadder folder in your Xpadder folder where you have profiles, controller images, etc...
- Open Xpadder and select the controller My Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows) and the profile Thief - The Dark Project.
- Ingame go to Options and select the Xpadder Bindings. Required to properly use the controller bindings.
*Also, I recommend to use 75% mouse sensibility and free camera; to get the controller work properly make also sure not to have inverted mouse right/left buttons.
CONTROLLER COMMANDS:
LS = Walk (Slight inclination), Run (Strong inclination)
RS = Camera / Cursor
A = Jump
B = Crouch
Y = Next item (Hold button for quick-scrolling)
X = Use, Clear weapon (Hold)
For reading and lockpicking, there are custom commands:LB + X = Use - Reading
DPad Up = Quick-switch Lockpick and use it (Hold)
RT = Attack / Click in menus
LT = Block
START = Menu
BACK = Map (Press), Objectives (Hold)
DPad Left = Quick-use Flashbomb
DPad Down = Quick-use Holy Water Vial
DPad Right = Quick-use Health Potion
LB + LS = Lean (Not needed to hold the stick)
LB + Start = Quicksave
LB + Back = Quickload
LB + Y = Clear item
LB + B = Drop item (Hold button for quick-dropping)
RB + RS Up = Blackjack
RB + RS Up+Right = Sword
RB + RS Right = Broadhead Arrow
RB + RS Right+Down = Water Arrow
RB + RS Down = Noisemaker Arrow
RB + RS Down+Left = Moss Arrow
RB + RS Left = Rope Arrow
RB + RS Left+Up = Fire Arrow (Quick inclination), Gas Arrow (Keep inclined)
*All commands that open inventory menu have a timer that auto-closes it after 8 seconds.
