I'm just a few lessons in so I'm no Sonny Rollins, that's for sure ;)
It's both easier and harder than I thought. First octaves are okay and I can play some basic tunes, but I'm still learning how to breathe properly to get it sound good and keep it that way. I'm at the stage between "making noise" and "playing real music", so to speak :)
I listen a lot to "Bird" Parker and Stan Getz, and I discovered some pretty good bands at Monterey last year, like Along Came Betty. I'm planning to go back there next September actually :)

Nice.
Hope the jazzing sessions work out great for you man, let your moustache and beard grow a bit more to get a proper rugged jazzist look ;)
A French jazzist...HAH! :D
Sweet times, man.
Off-topic: raph - how's your sister been, btw? :)

I started playing the harp at 28, mostly self taught and while i'm nowhere near amateur concert quality, I can make it sound nice.
Give it a go, music is always a great hobby and youget to know lots of interesting people too.

i think the anti semite wins the best post award. anyway, you don't need my endorsement with all the encouragement you've gotten, but i can't legitimatly post without some ghost of on-topicness so go for it. I'm 22, and thinking about taking up piano, and then guitar. if you're too old, then i'm fucked.

Alright, I Just talked to the guy. It appears that he even teaches 70 year-old guys, so I guess I could be much worse off!
First lesson is on monday, and he'll probably even leave me a violin to practice with.
Will keep you guys updated!

Must be something about being 28 that inspires a bunch of people to pick up and learn an instrument. My guess is that it has something to do with 30 being just around the corner.
Anyway, I was worried about the same thing. I'm 28, and figured it was way too late to learn another instrument. But a couple of weeks ago, a thing happened where one thing led to another, and my dad ended up giving me one of his old acoustic guitar.
After practicing for a week, I can play the chromatic and E phrygian scales like a straight up motherfucker. I also know a chord.

Sitting around with friends, beers and instruments has to be one of the most fun things there is to do in this world. So play that fiddle!
And no, guitar hero doesn't count :p
