I looked up Deus Ex mods and what I find doesn't match my memory. I seem to remember not liking the Zodiac and Cassandra mods very much, but now I can't remember. I *do* remember loving the Hotel Carone A LOT. There was another one I really liked. It was two maps. It started, I think, in some kind of UNATCO headquarters and, like, got invaded or something. Then you went to a pretty respectable city and you had to climb up onto a balcony where a guard or two was patrolling a hall and then sneak into a hotel room. That was just part of it. Anybody remember which one that was? I LOVED IT. Also it lasted hours.
There was also another one that took place in CIA headquarters in Virginia. It was huge. The building was all curved like the real headquarters I think. The grounds were very large, you had to sneak in through a chain link fence. That one was excellent. Loved it. Also two parts I think.
I see the Zodiac mod is complete. I only played the first map. I think I'll download the whole thing.
There was one that was supposed to be released in parts as well. The first part was essentially just a training mission, though a long and elaborate one where they had this entire building set up indoors where you could practice infiltrating. Which one was that?
I found these:

(

(

(

Hey guys. Just reading through the forums here and thought I'd take the time to mention a little more about Deus Ex: Man in Black (thanks for the recommendation, Ziemanskye! :) )
The mod is set one month after the events of the original game and puts the players in the shoes of MJ12's first nanoaugmented MIB. No, alas, the mod isn't about Johnny Cash...maybe that will be an expansion pack....
Anyway, our homepage is located at (
http://mib.deusexgaming.com) and our Mod DB profile (which has the bulk of our media) is here at (
http://mods.moddb.com/6841/Deus-Ex-Man-in-Black/)
If anyone would like to know more or perhaps join our team, you can reach me at Justin_Permenter@baylor.edu or by MSN Messenger (Duality1984).
Thanks!

I just tried the texture packs and the only thing I noticed was that Alex was a whole lot uglier and load times were intolerable. I guess I'm just not enough of a graphics whore to get anything out of it. I uninstalled it this morning and seriously, I see no difference.
There
should be a (
http://www.john-p.com/textures/DX-IW/Comparisons.html) noticeable difference. Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder though, so I can't argue with you there.

I didn't notice differences in environmental textures, like walls and floors and whatever. I didn't notice differences in the way monsters or robots looked, I'm not sure if the pack replaced weapon skins, but I didn't notice it if it did. I'm sure if I compared scenes side by side I would notice stuff, definitely, but very little leapt out at me while I was playing. I guess I'm simply too absorbed in other aspects of a game to notice those sorts of things.
I only noticed two things while playing: many faces were different, much more detailed and less blurry. But on the whole quite a bit uglier--IMHO obviously. The other thing I noticed and forgot to mention earlier was people's clothes. THAT looked a LOT better. Leathers were more leathery, many clothes with shiny highlights looked better, the folds etc.
I have seen many many people rave about the various texture packs out there, how it completely changed their gaming experience and how everything looked soooo much better. Meh, didn't really enhance my experience that much so I uninstalled it. I guess people focus on different things in games.

I only recently bought Invisible War - my old machine couldn't run it when it first came out. I haven't actually completed it yet, but it feels more like a mod for the original than a full blown sequel, and seems to lack polish. Felt the same way about Deadly Shadows. Both of them, if taken out of the context of being sequels are reasonably good games. Unfortunately they are sequels to very good games, and as such their standards should have been higher. Have to complete them though before I make a final decision.
I also installed the texture packs from John.P's site for both Invisible War and Deadly Shadows and the difference, to my eye at least, was astonishing. Took me a couple of attempts to get it installed right with the community texture pack on account of using a European version, but managed it in the end. Fantastic work. :thumb:

See, that's what everybody says so I have to wonder if something is wrong with my eyes.

I found the uglyness an essential aspect of JohnP's retexturing - I felt like punching Alex D very flipping time I saw him orignally, he just had to kind of a face... strangly enough give him a beard, big glowing purple eyes and weathered feature and I could stand him alot more... I have said before I and i will say it again, I reckon JohnP's texture are essential to make DeusEx:IW playable.
