When I tried to play Arx Fatalis I had several problems. First one was that it crashed quite frequently (about every fourth resolution change i.e. when switching to load/save screen or the intermediate screen when changing a map). The seemd to fix this, but I still have one issue.
I'm used to a certain control for FPS style games and of course I would like to do this in AF as well, but the here the problem is that the mousebuttons are reserved for certain actions. So I wonder if there is a patch or a trick on how to assign the buttons and keys individually. I wonder why some game developers choose to assign certain keys to specific actions. It costs an extra effort to do this and only annoys players like me (I had the same problem with Operation Flashpoint).
My normal control is on left mousebutton moving forward, right mousebutton backward. Because of the fixed assignment I couldn't make this and changing it in the config file directly doesn't really help because the game doesn't respond well to this as it has the mousebuttons hardcoded for certain actions. :(
Any ideas how to overcome this?

I'm going to have to agree with Zylonbane for this one. Try using WASD or the Arrow Keys, the Mouse is required too much to not have those point and click functions going. Sorry I couldn't help more. :erg:

Imagine using other Windows apps with a control setup like that.
"Well I'm used to using left-click to scroll up in a Word document, and right-click to scroll down!"

It's not completely unheard of. KotOR can be controlled using only the mouse. Left click moves your character forward.
Quite what other windows apps have to do with it is beyond me.
