Is it a NewDark thing that Thief 1 has a 'speed control' key that the player can hold to slow down?
Wasn't that always there in both games even before NewDark? I've always played Thief like this: W is run, S is walk, X is going backwards and Shift + W, S or X results in running or walking even slower.
Are we talking about the same thing?

I'll need to open up the key binding screen but I thought that there was a function for walking extra slow without crouching but crouching pretty much does the same thing plus helps you hide more. Might be time for some of us to revisit the original training missions at the beginning of T1 and T2. :laff:

not a NewDark thing. even in version 1.0 of Thief: The Dark Project there was a "Speed Toggle" bind, defaulting to Shift. not sure if it would make you run faster when walking though, i think that was a Thief 2 change when they unified the walk/run forward binds.

I managed to deflect an arrow, shot at me from an archer, with my sword today. Been playing for 20 years and that's the first time it's ever happened as far as I'm aware.

That got me thinking. Are there any AI character in T1 and T2 that shoot any arrows other than a standard one? Like fire arrows? I don't think I've ever thought about anything fired at me while playing because I usually am just running away.

The archer you tail in Assassins will shoot a fire arrow at you (just one for some reason). He can be found in the guard's sleeping quarters if you follow them back to Ramirez's place.
Edit: I almost forgot about the one guard in the hidden blooper level of TG who will shoot
apples at you. In case anyone is finding out for the first time that there is a blooper level, it's definately worth a few laughs.

in Life of the Party, theres a round tower with explosive barrels and a couple fire crystals in it. and the archer who patrols the staircase beside it uses fire arrows.

In both
Fables of the Penitent Thief and
Walking the Edge (Shadow of Doubt campaign) archers shoot apples from their bows, and IIRC archers shoot snowballs at you in
Snowball Fight

Did you also know that you can knockout a fully aware (alert level 3) enemy who is charging you, if you are in full darkness and lean forward when swinging the blackjack?
I've done this many times. It works when a certain amount of time in full darkness has passed.
I read somewhere that you can blackjack fish in the water but I've never been able to do it.
