Plan on getting Arx but tell me one thing... - by madhatter256

Is Arx's learning curve steep or shallow?
What I mean is, will it take me a few minutes to get used of the controls and how to battle and solve puzzles or will take some "trial and error" for me to get used to it??
PC game is selling for $20.

Personally, I'd call it a medium learning curve...provided you have experience with FPS games. The controls should be familiar for the most part. The interface and magic system take a little time to get used to but I'd say after an hour or two, you should have it down for the most part.
I believe there's a demo you can DL if you have the bandwidth...
Cheers!

I'd agree with that -- the interface is necessarily on the complex side for a FPS game, but you ought to get used to it before too long. But it will take more than just a few minutes to get a handle on everything. If anything is completely bewildering you, then just ask :)

I downloaded the demo and it looks great but runs slow because I'm still using a TNT2 card but that will change soon or someday, depends on a few things. Anyway, I'm still trying to get used to the controls and how to execute moves much faster.

I didn't try the demo, but from what I've heard it's not optimised as well as the full version. I don't know if they updated it or patched the demo.

The full game played better on my PC than the demo. If you happen to buy a used copy of the game (as I did at EBGames), make sure the package includes the manual. My copy did not, which meant that I had to spend some time online collecting information about game play. There is no copy of the manual on the CD-ROM. I found the "learning curve" frustrating at first and almost abandoned the quest, but I stuck with it and was glad I did. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the game.
