I was going to ask if a standard pistol with a silencer mod would be as quiet as the stealth pistol, but a bit of searching reveals that apparently the silencer mod won't work on the standard. Is this true? I've been lugging them both around while I look for a silencer, thinking I could get a heavier hit while still keeping things quiet, but if it's not going to work out then I can clear up a little inventory space.

The silencer won't work for the pistol. The stealth pistol is all you'll get for silenced pistol shots.
I preferred the normal pistol, but it's up to you.

Awesome. Makes no sense whatsoever, but awesome. I'd rather stick with the better killing power of the unsilenced pistol, but I need something discreet, and the mini-crossbow takes too long to drop guys.

Just switch out the ammo with regular darts, they're lethal and take only 1 shot if you hit them right.

Maybe I'm just not looking very well, but there doesn't seem to be enough standard dart ammo for serious killing action. Not that it's a concern right now, I just less-than-lethal'd my way from Battery Park to LaGuardia, but sooner or later I'm going to have to bring the hammer down on someone.

Just so you know, there are shitloads of Darts in the game. Especially when you include Flare Darts.
I prefer going with the Stealth Pistol for discrete kills as if you don't get the dart just right it's more difficult to get another one off quickly and on target whereas the stealth pistol double tap is great.
Edit: AND ANOTHER THING what's with the PS20 being one-carry only

I did not know that.
On the other hand, if I'm going to be killing a guy anyway, I may as well use the stealth pistol. I don't think I've even tried the crossbow for anything but non-lethal takedowns at this point.
So here's a part-two, then: Is there much point in keeping the stealth pistol around once I get a silencer on the assault rifle? I know that puppy can be silenced.

There's no point in keeping the pistol when you get the sniper rifle (except for sniper ammo being scarce). The assault rifle is a poor replacement for the pistol unless you invest in max rifle skills to make it incredibly accurate. Even then it's relatively weak.

This had its own thread (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109922) here and I maintain the Assault Rifle is all kinds of cool. It does need skills/modding to be great but really is super when it's done. It sounds like you're using Rifles and Pistols mainly but what's best to use depends on your other equipment. Got a GEP Gun, don't need the shotgun/demolitions so much. With a silenced Sniper Rifle or Assault Rifle the Stealth Pistol is redundant, maybe you'd like to keep the Pistol to use when you just need to take one isolated guy out and want to conserve 30.06 ammo.

I'll be keeping the pistol around because it's cool. The assault rifle is handy for large-scale killification, but I'm a dude with a groovy long coat and sunglasses welded to my skull, and nothing ties that image together better than a big, badass handgun.
nerrrrrrrd.
In fact, now that I think about it, I've only used the assault rifle once thus far, during the Osgood warehouse infiltration, which kinda spun out of control in a real hurry. But other than that unfortunate incident, I've been one cool, stealthy cat.
