What's wrong with sleeping under saran wrap?
Back to the point... The first film was really good fun, but if you went into it expecting anything more highbrow than good fun you'd be disappointed.
The second film had all the things that made the first one good fun - Johnny Depp, pirates, pitched sea battles, ridiculous acrobatics and more swashbuckling than you can shake a stick at - but it didn't really have anything underpinning them. It had a lot of good bits but nothing to string them together with, so it felt rambling, incoherent and overly lengthy. I still enjoyed it.

When I first watched the second POTC movie I agreed with everybody that the first one was the better movie, but now when I think back, I would much rather watch the second one. In fact, I probably wouldn't care much if I never saw the first one ever again. To me the first movie was entertaining, exciting, fun, and everything everybody says it is. However, after seeing Dead Man's Chest the first one feels like a standard Disney movie with a cute story and light, humourous action. The second Pirates on the other hand has a dark, dense, involving atmosphere, which just hooks me. Whereas the first movie felt like a movie about pirates, the second one felt like you were in the Carribean.
If you want a different take on it, then I'll tell you that I think the reason I even like the films at all is because of their similarity to the Monkey Island series. I guess DMC was just more similar. heh
Summary!!!
Pirate #1 - Atmosphere...almost there
Pirate #2 - Atmosphere...there
Pirate #3 prediction - Atmosphere...probably still there
Also sexual tyrannosaurus?

Zimmer ... I don't find his stuff distractingly bad though.
YOU ARE DEAD TO ME. Zimmer is brilliant. As is Horner. And Williams. And Elfman, when he's not remaking the Batman soundtrack over and over. Ooh, ooh, and Poledouris! And Gregson-Williams! And Glennie-Smith! And my love from Outcast, Moore.
Why you be hatin'? :(
