The guy starts with complaining that the movie has a dark start, when that is similar to how DMC ends. I bet he would have complained that it wasn't true to DMC if it had started on a lighter note.
He seriously sounds like he just wants to complain because it gets him on the air.

It least the movie had a lot more Barbossa in it. . .Geoffrey Rush is awesome.
Despite the fact that his accent was hugely inconsistent throughout the movie. He even became a cockney for a few moments during the big pirate meeting.
The movie was action packed, all the scenes were dramtic, all the characters were larger than life and... for some reason it all came together to make a pretty dull movie IMO. :(
And I got fed up with everyone double crossing each other all the time. It was so common that it became surprising when any of the characters actually did what they said they were going to do.

I am not going to bother reading this whole thread:P. I was wondering if someone would give me a spoiler and tell me what happens to Jack, Will, and Kiera. :D
Thanks,

I believe that two out of the three ended up fucking Andrea Corr, but don't quote me on that.

Jack Sparrow finds himself in charge of the East India Company, Will is killed by a falling mast while heroically defending Elizabeth from a 60' tall (no kidding) Barbosa, and in the end (after the credits) Elizabeth is seen looking over the cliffs towards the sea where the Kraken still preys on passing ships... but she has a new husband! (dramatic music, who is this new beau?)
Or Rug Burn's theory. That's all good too.

Tell the damn truth. :P
And Rug Burn, stop fantasizing about being in POTC. ;)

Considering the amount of disdain he has for the franchise in general, I'm fairly certain he would have welcomed something completely different with open arms.

Er, something dark as an opener was completely different and to be honest, despite his nearly valid criticism that it's a kid's movie (but then, must we wrap our kids in bubble wrap as to the horrors of the world? Nearly every animal-based Disney movie started with their parent being murdered), he does just come off like a whiney cunt for the sake of having the "rant master" title.

If you like cynicism, Charlie Brooker and the blokes from Top Gear are much better at it without looking like pretentious gits.

What was pretentious about Kermode's review?
