(

Very cool, looks like lots of insane battles on land and at sea, as well as a decent sword fight between Jack and Davey Jones. They seem to have effortlessly glossed over Jack's demise at the end of Dead Man's Chest, let's hope they actually have a plot mechanism here that isn't a horrific cop-out - also Barbossa, how the fuck? Here's hoping they can resolve stuff, but even if they can't, at least have lots of piratey shit happening.
I enjoyed both movies, although DMC could have easily stood to lose fifteen or twenty minutes (the first 15-20 mins, actually) but this looks like more of the same kind of awesome action comedy that made the first two great popcorn flicks.

I think I am the last remaining person on earth who has never seen any of the POTC movies.

You should remedy that instantly. They're the Indiana Jones movies of this time.

I'd have to disagree. While I enjoyed Indiana Jones, Jack has to be one of the most kick-ass personalities in the last century. POTC is in a genre of its own. It's almost a shame that he's only a fictional character.
"Your mad!"
"If I wasn't, this'd probably never work."
BOOM!
I think i may have to steal that line for myself!
Edit: Geekish Thought: Now all we need is a Ninja movie series and a crossover movie. Though while I'd normally side with ninjas, pirates would win cause of Jack. Better to be lucky then skilled.

I wasn't referring to Jack when I mentioned Indiana Jones, merely the style and presentation of the flicks are similar - big blockbusters with an adventure focus, decent characters, gags, physical comedy and crazy action.
And I wouldn't rule out ninja pirates from this one, or even zombie ninja pirates (though you'll probably have to rule out laser-beams).

I am looking forward to this movie. I enjoyed the other two and this looks like it will be a nice ending to the trilogy. And to think, all of this started with a ride at Disneyland.

The second POTC was a badly edited mess in dire need of tightening. So much of it simply went on for too long. Problem is that the straight guys are simply not interesting; Jack Sparrow is, and then perhaps Jack Davenport's character. I'm more interested in the third film, though, because Barbossa was a cool character. He should inject the film with a bit of energy.

You're really not missing much. I can't fault the production values, but they're just as soulless and empty as you'd expect movies based on a fairground ride to be. And Johnny Depp's weak Keith Richards impersonation is possibly the most over-rated performance in the history of cinema.

The first one's a fun popcorn movie, I'd say. SD may not like Johnny Depp's performance, but it's a lot of fun - very few people manage to do camp well in big blockbusters, and there's something subversive about having such a queen of a character as the real hero.
The second one could be fun if it wasn't as bloated. I'm not at all convinced that the series needed to be a trilogy; if the third movie is as bloated, they should have just done a second film and cut out the flab.
