It always puzzles me when people complain "There's too much content in this game! Get it away!"
That's not it at all. I like the fact that there's always stuff to do, but some of the one-off quests seem a little uninteresting.
Perhaps I should just start a new character and go in a completely different direction.
Well, with Oblivion it may be worth waiting for several reviews and some initial community feedback to guage how well the game is actually going to run for most people. Given what a huge difference Tribunal and Bloodmoon have on performance...
We could of course be optimistic? As long as it doesn't run like a dog with no legs...

All right you guys, I had my first Oblivion dream last night!
My mage from Morrowind, Bedros, was searching Tamriel. It's really weird - I forgot the names of the cities, so I made up my own. Anyway, I was being chased by this guy and the Radiant AI was sharp. Way too sharp. I couldn't get used to the spell system in Oblivion, so I had all these powerful spells but I couldn't actually use them. And for whatever reason I kept looking for Levitate in my dream, but of course Oblivion doesn't have levitate so I couldn't escape! I just kept resorting to telekinesis which... did no damage.
Eventually I was cornered and splattered into a red, chunky pile of flesh.

That was me in your dream, mother fucker.
I don't have my own dreams, I venture around the world kicking people's video game character's asses in their dreams. Especially the single player gamers that are too pussy to play a man's game where they can get their asses handed to them by people like me.
I have caused many a seppeku when Asians wake up in a cold sweat, muttering tremors of being chased by a large axe wielding bearded man who was hurtling obscenities at them.

Well, my main problem the first time around was not so much getting lost in quests but rather, I thought I'd look around the world a bit before tackling the main quest or a guild. Whenever I found a ruin/cave, I'd explore it and sell the stuff.
Of course, that only got me cursing myself later on, when I was trying to remember to whom I sold that stupid quest item I needed. Also, by that time my char was level 50 and it all got, well, boring. :erg:
I'm now on my second run and have to practically go LALALA IM NOT SEEING IT each time I pass something that is not related to my current quest, which defeats the openess of the game a bit.
Aside from that, I'm enjoying my second time around a lot more. I have some mods installed, which fix almost all things I didn't like (the terrible emptiness of Vvardenfell for one), and generally got a better feeling for the game. I also limited my character by choice of main skills, which helps a bit to keep combat intresting.

None of that is a problem of the GAME as such. It is precisely the freedom to do such things, to go and sell the important stuff, that makes it open. It's like throwing away an important letter with the junk mail: it happens, and it can be very inconvenient, but it's still something that may happen to you. It's not any more "bad design" in the game than it is in the real world... If you're careless, things like that are bound to happen.
This is partially why my characters' houses in Morrowind are always full of all kinds of trinkets... never know when they might come in handy.
"Fetch the Crosier of St. Llothis! It's a gruelling task, be prepared!"
"Uh, yeah. Wait a tic." *teleports home*
"Hmm, hmm, hmm... crosier, crosier... ah, Crosier of St. Lothis, here it is." *walks back*
"Here you go. It was SO difficult to retrieve!"
(the other reason for my houses being full of stuff is that I love collecting interesting things ;)

Actually, that's quite a nice thing about Morrowind.
I said to myself "I've got and inventory full of random crap - what the hell do I do with it?". I then started to fill my hut in Ald-Ruhn with some of the prettier crap and it now looks very pleasant.
I developed a tendency to collect items that may be useful from years of playing adventure games, and now it doesn't just have to clutter up your inventory...
