242, it's your freedom to choose what you want to read, and what not. But... you either stupid or a liar. You have to read between the lines.

That's what I meant about political debates on Russian forums.

It's getting warm in here. 242 don't you consider ignoring clearing too, for common peace? :erg:

Oh, I'm terribly sorry.
The situation around South Ossetia and the state of democracy in Russia is probably best observed from Liverpool. At least that's what I think after SD presented us so many cogent facts on the matter.
Oh dear, sarcasm failure. As Scots said, that argument is about as cogent as the 'if you don't paint/sing/make mods you can't criticise someone else's work' argument.

Every time I see pictures like those and hear these arguments I think of Pegasus Bridge in WWII. just north of Caen in France. I dont care about the political implications of any of it because when it comes down to it the most important thing is the individual.
At Caen the british decided to bomb the entire town just to get at the germans and they killed as many french civilians (the people they were trying to liberate) as they did german soldiers. day after day.
D'spair I'm not russian and I've never lived there, my experience has been very limited and entirely second hand. But as far as I've been able to tell its not Russias shift to democracy that weakened it, it was the shift to capitalism. which are 2 entirely different things. And flexing your arm to prove that you can regardless of who your 'liberating' is a pretty damn self indulgent bloodly lie when you're displacing innocent uninvolved individuals, destroying their homes and killing their family members. Soldiers fight, but the majority of individuals just want to be left the hell alone.
The communist party didn't believe in anything but communism. None of them had any system of belief other than hold onto power as long as they could because they knew they were all going to die and as far as they were concerned thats where life ended. I'm not going to debate religion, but I woudln't want somebody like that to rule with an iron fist. If you want that back I suppose thats your choice, but I dont see how it could beneifit anybody... anywhere... ever.
I"m not personally attacking you here I just think whats happening to the georgian civilians is awful. Just like it was to the French in WWII when the allies and the axis were only worried about blowing each other up without regard to lives that weren't willfully involved and caught in the cross fire. But at least then it wasn't a political flex of the arm.
I've actually had 3 of my friends serve a mission in moscow for the Church, helping people and teaching them the gospel if they wanted to hear it, and at that intimate individual level... Russians are just like everybody else in the world, they just want to live. Putin and Medvyedev(spelling?) should both be ashamed of putting those kind of people at such big risk just because they're not russian nationals, unless of course they want the same thing as you do and follow Vladimir Illych's idiom about the omlette.
If I've read you wrong, I'm sorry. Not trying to piss you off. I just dont agree.

Second sentence true and thus making the first one invalid.
