Dear Lord, is picking locks at all possible in this game? I have a mechanical skill of 50, and have only successfully picked one lock thus far. One....bloody...lock... If I hear "This is too complicated for me" one more time, I'm gonna freak...

How high does the mechanical skill have to be to find any success? Are there any open spells? Help!

i do it all the time, but then i am a thief type character with high dexterity and whatever

i have lockpick skill about 75 and i can pick almost anything, even the bank. with 50 you should be able to do many things though. if he says "too complicated" you cant do it. But just because you fail doesnt mean you cant pick it. you just have to use up more lockpick tools. If he says "i think ive damaged my tools..." (or) "not a very successful attempt" then you can try again. you will have to use up several toolset durability on the lock. the harder the lock, the more likely you are to fail. but if you buy enough tool sets, you can keep trying. I believe its a % chance. so if youre really picky, you can try a few times, then reload your game, and kep trying until you succeed without wasting too many sets. Keep in mind though, some doors like big metal doors are impossible to pick (especially if they are a future plot area.)

another trick is to enchant some weapon with garlic. This will give you a dexterity boost of 1. and when DEX gets boosted, it boosts the mechanical skill too by several points. Then make sure to wear any armor that might boost your skills as well. This can give you a temporary higher chance to pick locks.

Also, a trick is to bash the door down. Most players dont realize that many wooden doors can just be smashed. the poor mans lockpick is an axe :D

I've only played the demo, and only once; but one door gave me a "this is impossible" message. I've opened one chest, but couldn't get the other to open before my tools got too damaged. Can you repair tools with the hammer and anvil?
