Since when do aesthetics have anything to do with what people put in their mouths? Since when are kittens not grossly mistreated by a sizable percentage of a population?
And aren't cats food, too, in some cultures? PETA's intended demographic must be a very narrow group.

PETA is one of those organizations that seems to actively hurt their own cause more then they help it.
I'm a vegetarian simply by association and I'm too lazy to probably change my diet that much (I do eat fish and therefore probably fishkittens), but nobody can make a logical argument that its OK to eat some things and not others, because its totally subjective. It is inconsistent, but not in the way that they want, because it goes both directions. What that means is we have no less reason to not eat REAL kittens (and or cats) than we do anything else. We won't because it feels terrible, but there is no difference at all except to us.
The "rights" that we extend to other creatures are nothing but man made culturally accepted values, they have no underlying function than to give us guidelines, so they are what we make them. I would like to think that we are, as a species, opposed to overt cruelty (and you could make a good argument that we aren't), but eating animals (any animal) is only "wrong" if we culturally agree its wrong, which it doesn't seem most people (ie them) get. That doesn't mean that they just have to accept it, or give up, because if people don't work to extend rights, they wont be.
If TL;DR, yeah fuck PETA.

Actually, a lot more animals are cute when they're young than when grown.

The outward appearance of a species isn't a factor for me. There are animals I don't find tasty at all, and there are animals I enjoy the hell out of to great detriment. I only eat the muscles of animals, the milk of cows, and the eggs of chickens when I eat animal products, unless it's canned sardines, herring, or salmon. Any other creatures I consume, large enough to be seen with the naked eye, are the inevitable insects that live in other foods, which are cooked, unseen, or blended in.

I'm waiting for the day when the PETA organizers are outed for overdoing 'shrooms and peyote and various plants as part of their brainstorming sessions. Fish in Halloween costumes. Oh look, there's a fish dressed up as Super Mario in a Tanooki suit...kinda.
