O.K. this is gonna be a fun one...
My old mobo fried itself and I had to replace som components. The problem is that even though any repair made could only be considered an upgrade, my Morrowind performance has deterriorated horribly. A few factors to keep in mind: I had to perform a clean WinXP install, a clean ES3 install.
My old config:
Mobo: Soyo KT333 Dragon Plus!
CPU: XP 1800+
RAM: 512 MB PC2700
VidCard: ATI 9500 Pro
HDD: Western Digital 5200 RPM 30 GB
My new config:
Mobo: Asus A7n8x-e deluxe
CPU: XP 3000+
RAM: 1 GB PC3200
VidCard: ATI 9500 Pro
HDD: Maxtor 7200 RPM 80 GB
So, what's up? Any Ideas? I'm DYING to play it again at 1600x1200, it's just too pretty to run at anything less...
BTW: my current config SMOKES DOOM3

Try installing the latest Catalyst drivers for your Radeon. That usually helps.

How does your config "smoke" Doom 3. My machine is a little bit stronger than yours and I hardly can get it to run 1024x768 with No AA.

I run doom3 at 1280x1024 w/ AA @2x and all other options high (including visual effects quality) veeeeeeeery smoothly. Maybe it's the setup. Ah dunno.
I have the newest drivers for everything (except service pack 2), that's what makes this so frustrating. I even defrag at every startup. A new machine really should run cleaner than an older one.

i would say lower the resolution to about 1024 * 768 and Turn on 4xAA and 16xAF, that works for me just fine, and my computer is slower than yours.

O.K. I'm an idiot.
I just discovered a driver CD that came with my mobo. All drivers installed, works like a charm @ 1600x1200.
Thank you all for your help.
BTW how do you access the menu to turn on AA? I've never seen that before in ES3
