Hmmmm. Interesting, Spix. You've got me very curious to see the yet-to-be end result. I have nothing to contribute for either Deus Ex title, but I hope you get lots of feedback.
"...mega niggles...." :laff: I like it.

Hm, looks like a pretty good essay, though I completely disagree with your description of the original DX. I was never bored with the game, and I found the story and setting to be plenty "inspiring". DX is still one of the most immersive gaming experiences I've ever had, right up there with SS2.

Could you describe your DX:IW experiences?

I can't comment in depth because I want to finish
Invisible War first, but I am definitely interested in what you guy thinks of the above.
When we can choose the criticisms we answer and put them out of context, it's easy to look as if we are right. To me, this is what the author of that article was trying to do : trying to look as if he was right.
Personally, I can't understand how someone can give a 96 to IW. I guess one possibility was they never really played with the game, gave a score after reading some descriptions from Eidos marketing department and played or viewed an alpha demo and then extrapolated and imagined everything else. Maybe they made their "review" before actually seeing the game because of a schedule constraint. That article was, maybe, just a way to cover up their lack of any journalistic integrity.

I played DX:IW on Gametap recently, and was surprised by how much it didn't suck. After 4 years of negative talk, I was expecting it to be total crap. Now, after doing two run-throughs, I must declare it Not Too Bad.
I'm sick of letting other people tell me what think.

It's alright, we told you what to dream."):bored:

Four years of negative talk is plenty to knock anyone's expectations to an all-time low with anything, especially a game. Negative hype is still hype.

That, and I think reviewers play the first quarter of a game, find it awesome
I can certainly relate to that. The first few weeks I couldn't play with IW because of my GeForce 2 MX, so I could only read comments from other people. Then I bough a newer card, tried the demo... and found it quite good! It was to a point where I thought the bad comments were simply because of mass hysteria. I then bought the game... and found it quite bad.
I can afford to change my mind, but I guess a game reviewer can't because of the fear of losing his credibility.

I like PCPP. Far better than any of the other games magazines we get here. Their recent defence of their Bioshock review was... interesting, though.
