Why not DivX? You might actually see more than a few wobbling pixels there. ;)
Nonetheless, I appreciate the effort. Looks good, but does't fit in as well as the original. They shortened my favorite intro line, too.
Why contain it? Let <del>it spill over to the schools and churches, let</del> the bodies pile up in the streets... in the end, they'll beg us to save them!

Because not everyone has DivX codec.

In addition, the Deus Ex theme is played by a real orchestra on the PS2 version.
That would be nice. The PC version music is a bit disappointing. The intro (where that shiny metallic logo appears) has great sounding music, but in game, the music is weak.

No I actually liked a lot of the in-game music too. HK had some of the best ones.

Yes, it fit very well... and added a lot to the atmosphere.

I read an interview on GameSpot a while ago where Warren was talking about the changes they made for the PS2 version ... from what I remember, he said that the changes in the levels supposedly make more sense than in the PC version.
I played it on my brother's PS2 a few days ago and right away on Libery Island, it's different. You don't go up the ramp from the dock and enter the thick of things right away. You go through a building containing a ticket booth and end up right away at UNTACO HQ. It kind of confused me at first why I had to "fight" my way to UNATCO HQ. There are some other changes too, like the long shadowy stretch with the hidden NSF sniper being gone completely. That removed some of the choice and avoidance potential, in my mind. As well, on the North Dock there's a ladder leading down to where the sunken tanker is, which is farther away from the dock itself. I stopped playing it there since I suck bad enough with keyboard and mouse, let alone a controller. ;)
The animation looks better than the meshes did; it now uses a skeletal system. I didn't like the new inventory screens either, but Warren's a big fan of those.
also, DivX is NOT hard to get ;)

But yeah, Warren commented how they've learnt a <i>lot</i> about UI design when remaking Deux Es for the PS2. Personally I envy their interface, I hate the convulsed 10-screens-of-mostly-useless-information that the PC version has.
Not to even mention the mouse cursor lags annoyingly whenever you have to use it fast. Like, oh I dunno, trying to manipulate a terminal to turn off multiple security posts at the same time, the different camera views slowing down the mouse so badly your ICEpick is down to 10% before you succeed.
Anything that improves the chances of a bigger/better sequel is all a plus. :thumb:
[edit]Oh. And whoever thought that manually turning on Power Recirculator every time was a good idea [lucky PS2 users]... I hope they never get to eat the last cockie in the jar ever again. Blah, that is just <i>such</i> a bother...[/edit]

How does sound sound on ps2 with a good home theater? Is there Dolby Digital for any of the PS2? I saw the ps2 version for rental, and I was really tempted to rent it, but I don't even own a ps2 so I'll have to see about trying it out on a friend's ps2. Are there any mp3s for the PS2 theme song? I checked the PS2 version on deusex.com and listened to the theme on mp3 but it gave me the pc synthesizer version.

Ok...I rented the PS2 version, and was literally minutes away from beating it, with the finish line in sight, and a bug popped up and f***ed it up, and it's due today...so that was such a waste of time. There's no way I'm gonna renew it and start all over. I had multiple save games, and it worked perfectly fine until I killed 2 aliens, and a dense cloud a flies appeared over them that didnt' move at all, and made the frame rate go to slower than 1 frame per second until it freezes. It's not letting me save now either.
If that didn't happen, I would've liked it, but right now I'm annoyed at all the time I wasted, soon to beat it, and a bug cripples it.
About the music...I read quite a few places that said that it was recorded with a full orchestra, but I didn't sound like it, just sounded like the sounds in the pc version were changed to orchestra sounds. I asked a few people what they thought, and they all said it didn't sound like an orchestra, so it probably wasn't. It might've used some recorded samples of an orchestra.
It has good controlling, much better than medal of honor, and the models had better animation and more polys than Deus Ex on PC. Sound was the same, except it didn't have 3d sound, so sound often came right through walls, so you couldn't tell where some cameras are. It retains the feel of the pc version, although some of the levels weren't as expansive.

Could someone bother to describe the PS2 user interface? How you use the inventory and use augmentations etc? It might give hints about how DX2 interface is going to work...
