If anyone wants to see what the game will look like running mediumish settings on an Athlon XP 2200, 1GB Ram, and a 9800 Pro, check (
http://justgamers.de/?page=gallery&gallery_id=1724) this out.
It's a little rough but not absolutely horrible. I think with a little tweaking here and there and a willingness to play the game at 15-30 FPS...assuming it's not running at that already...I can make it look better than even that.
Edit: Direct link and videos can be found (
http://www.justgamers.de/?page=news&news_id=42240) here. Apparently we on the low end are gonna have to sacrifice shadows and HDR.

luckily I've got a faster CPU than that so I should be able to handle the shadows.
And that said, I don't mind playing at 20-30 fps really.

Tomorrow is going to be a very difficult day to get through.

I thought it was hitting shelves on the 21st. Its just shipping on the 20th?
Renzatic on 19/3/2006 at 19:56
Assuming that it didn't ship Thursday or Friday, you'll see it on shelves everywhere on the 21st. But considering how things go, how close stores are to main shipping hubs, and all that good hooplah, it wouldn't surprise me if a few lucky people managed to grab a copy tomorrow.

All this past week I had off work due to the college I work at being on Spring Break. So I fired up Morrowind and played the whole game! I'd played it before, but never finished it. I really liked the whole "ending", it was fulfilling to me and very satisfying.
I'd also played pretty much all of Bloodmoon before (I never quite got that mining town all the way built though), but I never played much of Tribunal, so I've been focusing on that for the past day and I'll see if I can't finish it tonight or tomorrow. Then it's off to Gamestop to pick up my Oblivion on Tuesday, YAY :cheeky:
I'm looking forward to seeing how it runs on my machine:
- Athlon XP 2500+ (runs at 1.8ghz, but supposed to work comparably to a 2.5ghz Intel P4)
- 1gig Ram (forgot what type/speed, I think it's average)
- GeForce 6800 w/128ram
I love high settings as much as possible, and I'm satisfied with 15-20fps, so I will try to turn the settings up as much as I can and still get at least the 15 (I'll monitor it with Fraps). I absolutely detest muddy textures when viewed at sharp angles, so I will necessarily be running the game (and all games I play) with 4x (or 8x if the hit isn't too bad) Anisotropic filtering on.
I don't like aliasing either, but I have a unique good thing going for me: I play on a LCD projector which has a native resolution of 800x600, so when I send a signal to it at a higher resolution it automatically scales it down to 800x600, effectively antialiasing the whole thing. It works pretty smartly and does a satisfactory job of it. Combined with a little real Antialiasing, the effect is no more jaggies all around! I run Morrowind at 1280x960 with just 2xAA, and the projector transition makes the final result smooth as butter, works great.
Of course, if need be for framerate reasons, I could run Oblivion at a straightforward 800x600, perhaps with 2xAA to help out.
I'll let you know how it turns out with a nice detailed report, hopefully that will shed more light on the subject.

Nothing more from you, thanks.

Oh come on...
If you didn't get any satisfaction and fulfillment from walking out of Dagoth Ur lair to see red blight sky slowly fade to clear blue and the landscape lighten up, then you must not have felt much of a connection to the land and people all along. Plus, seeling Lorkhan fall all apart and fall into the lava was impressive. After that I traveled to and talked with some of the major characters, including Vivec, and hearing them acknowledge me and thank me for saving thier land as the Nerevarine, it was gratifying.
You must admit
that the trinket from what`s-her-name the goddess was pathetic and a bit of an insult. I`d enchanted a similar but approximately 3X more powerful version halfway through the game. So I just thought "What do I want this piece of crap for?"
We were used to crap rewards by that time though. I mean, the ultra mighty MAKES EVERYONE LOVE YOU trinket gives you... +5 Personality. Five. Fucking FIVE. I had 100 Personality by default at the time I got it, and could Admire sleeper agents to 100 without a single fail at that point, what good will 5 do unless your personality is literally zero?
