Srtest is highly inaccurate. A while back it said my 9600xt was one notch away from recommended.

well I'm assuming that when they (Bethesda) say a 9800 AIW with 128Mb should be sufficient, I'm assuming that they're not lying.
I mean, all I'm saying is that it'll run.

It really depends on the quality. If I can get the game to look about as good as what they've been showing on my 9800 Pro (minus HDR more than likely), then I'll be happy.
I'll need to upgrade my processor though. My old 1.5Ghz just isn't gonna cut it.

well, good luck to us both but I seriously doubt it'll look QUITE as good. It'll still look good, though. Like a cross between Doom 3 and Far Cry.

That I'd be happy with. I'm just afraid I'll have to butcher the game just to get it to run.

luckily, as well as replying far to quickly to this thread, I'll be getting a new computer sometime in June/July so it should all look lovely on that.
I've saved up good for it. :D

I found a potentially useful chart at Tom's Hardware, part of "VGA Charts VII: AGP Update Summer 2005".
The table for HL2 has some useful results for the cards most of us have (I should think). The 9800 Pro is doing well against the mid-range cards of the next iteration, so it should do roughly the same as a 6600GT, say. Looks like we may be getting 25-30fps if we're lucky - just halving the overall framerates is possibly realistic.
Some of us will either be pleasantly surprised or somewhat frustrated...

Based on what I've read, the game seems targetted for the Geforce 6xxx line of cards. Since the 9800 Pro is about a generation behind, it should be able to play it fine, albeit with a few missing bells and whistles.
Well, assuming Bethesda has learned to code since Morrowind anyway. When MW came out I did have a top of the line card and a fairly new processor, and it still ran at 15-20 FPS.

Indeed, after loading up Morrowind yesterday I realised it still chugs a bit in outdoor environments, and I got slightly worried...
