1up has a (
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3149299) story on Bethsoft's response to the backlash.
Bottom line is that they're listening, but they're not about to change things based on people's reactions to the only content available right now.

The point is not that they "owe" us free content, the point is that other companies have given us huge amounts of new content in patches and they are trying to make us pay for a new model and two skins.

They're not trying to "make" you do anything. You don't have to buy the new stuff.

Don't play word games, its just annoying and counterproductive.
If I say "they make me pay in order to rent movies at blockbuster" no one would think I am implying that someone from blockbuster is coming to my house and forces me to exchange money for a movie at gunpoint. Why is this? cause its friggen common english so stop trying to be a dick.

I don't even give a shit if it was free. Horse armor? Hahahahahaha
That's so retarded. That's like a mod I'd see on tessource or something, I'd be skimming looking for decent mods, see 'horse armor' and think, 'Why do modders waste their time on stupid shit when they could make badass things?' and move on.

But that's kind of the point. No-one gets angry because Blockbuster charge you money. You're saying they don't owe you free content, and get angry because they offer content you can buy? If you don't think it's a good deal, don't buy it. If you thought they did owe you free content then I could see your irritation, but since you've already said that's not the case...
Here seems to be problem: people feel insulted by being charged for a small mod, the kind of thing that has traditionally been free. People aren't content to just say 'good for them, I'll buy that if it looks good and seems reasonably priced' because they're not viewing this as some normal kind of market transaction. No matter what you might say, you do feel as if you're owed free content, or at least that any extra content is free.

Firstly, I'm not playing word games. Your phrase "they are trying to make us pay" could be (and
was) misunderstood. No need to get snippy.
Secondly, now that I understand your point, I agree that it's shitty to change the model we're all used to. However, by upping the stakes this way, Bethsoft have to really step up and deliver the quality if they want to make a go of it. I think it'll eventually flop (especially with the amount of quality fan-made content available), but the micropayment model will take care of itself if the offerings simply aren't worth the money.
It's not like the game doesn't have a tonne of value as-is.

Ever hear someone from an older generation bitch about the fact companies sell bottled water? its the same kind of irritation.

So, it is that you think they owe you free content. It's something that's always been free and you're hacked off that it's not free.

Don't even get me started on that.
What continues to bother me about this is the potential impact it has on the future. Suppose some talented, enterprising modder decides to stick it to the man and comes up with his own horse armor mod, a
really good one, with dozens of unique and attractive suits of armor to fit all styles of characters, and then gives it away to the fans. How does Bethesda react? Do they start applying subtle pressure on the mod community to knock it off because they're treading on Bethesda's new territory? (insert spit-flying paranoid conspiracy theory rant here) Are we going to find ourselves down the road a few years with a TES V release that doesn't allow for fan-made content? This could be a good thing, encouraging professional, high-quality mod development for nominal fees - or it could be a bad thing, stifling the fan-based support that helped give Morrowind the legs it had. I just never have much faith that things are going to work out for the best.
