It was just pointed out to me that official mods like horse armor now cost money.
I can't even articulate anything beyond WHAT THE FUCK at this point. Has anyone actually paid for this?

I appreciate the work and stuff and am aware that mostly everyone at Bethesda is just working for a living, but unless they pack all this up plus a proper, retail available expansion of Tribunal/Bloodmoon scale the only payment they'll see from me for that is Poop Pounds, Dung Dollars, Litter Lire, Muck Marks, Rotten Rubel, Ebola Euros, Shit Schillings, Yuck Yen, Fart Franks, eh you get the point. 1.99 might not be much, but beware the beginnings or how that goes.

I don't see the big deal, to be honest. You don't
have to buy them, and if there's a mod you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE, it's only a (

Given this line of reasoning, I suppose the real question is whether or not a set of 15 official mods ends up equalling a $30 expansion.
On the one hand, they might be trying to nickel and dime us, but on the other hand, they're giving us more choice as consumers.
Anyway it's not like Oblivion is seriously hampered in any way that we have to pay extra to fix, since patches won't cost a thing.

Uhh.. not sure if I'm cool with that. To avoid the trouble with incompatibility issues that translated versions of Morrowind had with mods, I opted for the english version this time, only to face some trouble in getting my hands on official mods?
Speaking of expansions... I know it's early, but does anybody else have the feeling the map suggests some of the bordering provinces as possible expansions? Being an Argonian fan, I'd love to see Black Marsh, but I guess that's the least likely - Elsweyr has a lot of room on the map.

There's no "Official mods now cost money." There was some question as to the price, but it was more or less agreed that they would cost some amount of money. I think this is primarily for XBox 360 users.
PC users can probably get fan-made mods that do the same thing as the official ones.
As far as I can tell, Bethesda's goal is to continue making add-ons. If they give these away for free, they are effectively creating new game content (with voice acting, new models and textures, etc.) without making a profit. So you can see why they would have to charge money. Also, these add-ons would be balanced and professional, unlike many fan mods.
I don't have a problem with it, even if PC users had to pay as well. I would hope a CD would be released with a collection of official mods on it though, as I hate buying online.

Meh, you get 2 pieces of armor, an extra room and a extra fortress/house for about 6$. When the original game with 200+ dungeons/houses/towns and 20whatnot pieces of armorcosts around 40$. So the "fair price/lol should they give it away for free lol lol lol LOL LOL LOL LOL ACK (ulp. gotta stay away from those official forums :S )" argument doesnt really kick in for me.
By itself 1.99$ aint much, but a huge amount of little mods who could probably be bundled up into an expansion otherwise but now get fed in bits could really sum up. Id take a proper expansion anytime but this is just...nah. None of my business what people throw their money at, but this practice will most likely be somewhat successful on the ExxboxXxThhhreeeeesixXxtayyyy(!) and i sense doom and gloom on the horizon :o
Hrrr, never mind. Just my consolitis toe itching. Gotta get inside, its getting cold *scuffle*

Consolitis is very contageous. Normally I'd be "meh," except I think this is all to be fair to XBox 360 users who have to pay to download. Back room shady deals with M$ and all that. XBox 360 screwed us over royally on the interface and UI and now this. They just spoil everything they get their grubby, fat, 12-year old fingers on, don't they?
Then again, it's downright petty to complain about $1.99 and were consoles not involved I'd be happy to see Bethesda get a little extra scratch.

I like the new tabbed interface. I think the horse armor looks ugly, and should NOT be sold at all. The 360 guys already paid $10 more for their copy of the game, and were deprived of something we PC guys got free......Construction Set. So, they are already WAY behind in value. This just adds insult to their injury.
"HAHAHAHA first, we charge you a $10 premium over the PC version for no logical reason, then we won't give you the ways and means of modding game content like the PC crowd can for free, and then we'll make some crappy horse armor and SELL IT!!!!" Ugh. Poor 360 players. I feel for them.
