Does anybody know how to put the different NPCs into different positions? i.e. like the sleeping guard in Lord Ember's castle, or Lord Julian sat at the couch in the tutorial level.
I've looked at all the NPCs, through their scripts, etc. but I've found nothing!

at a basic level, you can make people sit at chairs with a Sitting link, and lie on a bed with a Sleeping link.
Making them get up and move around from these positions, I'm not sure on.

I sure wish that this editor came with some reference levels

Check the Content/T3/Maps folder of your editor installation. There's editable versions of all the original missions in there.

Possibly a script that simply removes this link?

Maybe.
I remember finding script actions to make them sit/sleep again after getting up, but I wasn't interested in my sitters or sleepers going anywhere, so I wasn't looking on how to get them up - hence not being able to offer any more help.

I haven't found how to control it with a script, but if they recieve a stimulus they will get up and search for garrett of their own accord. Which is nice.

The sleeping guard in Castle1 will wake up and chase you - check him

I have a non-combat chair sitter. He'll stand up and wander around/run off if alerted. That's just with the default settings.

My guys also didn't have space in which to move, which likely didn't help the process... Even if they wanted to get up and move, they couldn't have.
