Don't get me wrong... I love Thief 1 & 2 and its catalog of excellent FMs, but there are just so many things about the AI and the Dark Engine that totally break immersion if you're not careful to try and avoid them. Recently played Disorientation, and one guard gave chase to me, and all I had to do was jump up on a couple of nearby crates, and he stood at the end of the crates and hooted and hollered and rattled his sword impotently. I would have flatulated (is that even a word? It is now!) in his general direction if I could. It reminds me of the late actor Jon Pertwee when he played Doctor Who and was asked in interview about his least favorite Doctor Who villains and monsters. "Oh, without a doubt, the Daleks are my least favorite, because all you had to do to get away from them was go up a couple of steps and they were screwed."

Programming stealth AI that reacts to light and sound was difficult in Unity. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to program it in the new dark engine.
