You guys didn't know about this? It's almost 2 months old now.
Yep, I stumbled upon it accidentally ;)

* Life in the Zone is INTENSE now.
* There's a huge enemy over-respawning. Think vanilla (1.0) stalker.
From the start the Cordon was quite deserted, but when I approached the railway tunnel to pick up a suit Sid wanted the situation suddenly changed: a huge pack of dogs, a few boars, and a bandit appeared in the tunnel and their battle was hilarious to watch. The bandit was running to and fro and cursed like hell :)

* Contacts are broken. You don't know if there's anyone nearby.
You know because PDA map shows all living entities and corpses real time. Other way it's useless, it even doesn't show player's freeplay mode rank.

* Difficulty is insane. Consider yourself lucky if you survive one shot.
It's the fact that makes it almost unplayable for me ;(
BTW for those wanting to try it:
The localization.ltx file default is in russian , the change is easy

Well, I wanted to see many things adjusted to such directions but it sounds like they pushed most of them over the top? :erm:

Yes, it's not playable IMO, one bullet = you're dead.

I'm of the opinion that developers should stick with the gameplay they originally made and leave any major gameplay changes to the countless mods out there. What I want in a patch are bugfixes, not some changes that can potentially make me NOT want to update the game to the latest version.
When some stashes are empty despite the icon being on the map, that is clearly a bug. When you get the near unfinishable mission of protecting the border right after killing the big wave of monolith, and it repeats itself when it fails, that is also clearly a bug. But weapons doing x amount of damage or anomalies are visible, those are not bugs, so why the hell does a patch change these attributes?
I was happy with the default functionality of the game. And so were many others I bet. If the final version of 1.1 will be this way, I will not update. Simple as that.
ZRP will do the trick.

Well it is alpha...
Muzman on 1/4/2008 at 18:54
Wasn't the whole point of 1.1 to create a new gameplay mode that you can access after you've finished the game? Surely what we have here is the mode itself not being implimented properly and a whole lot of new settings just for testing. So it's not really intended to rewrite the rule book across the board when it's released.
I hope that's it anyway; I like the idea of a selectable free play mode and maybe even a realistic damage difficulty level, but not all the time.
I'm more worried about the suggestion that 1.1 has been shelved until Clear Sky comes out. I was hopeing they'd push that out to give us something to do while we wait.

It won't be a patch in a classic sense of the word but rather an "official mod". And those changes are intended for freeplay mode only. So, as Muzman said:

Well, I'd love to know the explanation behind the sudden invisibility of the anomalies and the bullets doing fuckloads of damage after finishing the game. Kind of arcadey if you ask me.
But I guess the community will poop out one freeplay mod after another once 1.1 final is out later this year. Hopefully one of them will be closer to my taste in gameplay. :sly:

So, "Freeplay mod, Invisible War edition" then? ;)
