Hullo, taffers!
I have a problem and I can't find a solution to it. I presently have the Good Old Games version of Thief Gold, which comes bundled with TFix version... well, mine was 1.22. Now, when you install this version of TG (along with TFix), the graphics are markedly different from what they used to be with original Thief / Thief. A whole bunch of object models are replaced with higher resolution ones, along with, IIRC, several other graphics changes. I'm not sure if all of these changes come with TFix, or if some are inherent in the GOG version of the basic game itself. Come to think of it, I don't reckon I ever saw a version of TFix, on GOG or otherwise, come with actual written instructions on installation and uninstallation.
Now, I don't usually mind these visual changes, personally, but a lot FM makers suggest playing their maps with original graphics for stylistic reasons (and because some improved models have different dimensions which makes them look funky). My problem is, as far as I personally can tell, nobody has ever bothered to actually write down how to do just that. I might be wrong about the "nobody ever" part, but that's my perception based on my search results on these forums. And Google.
So, I'm asking for help with this: could someone please provide a simple-to-follow step-by-step description of how to remove the advanced/enhanced/improved/whatever stuff from an already installed game with the models in it, to restore the game to its original graphical state? Would be grateful. Earlier today someone actually told me in person that it's supposed to be a pretty simple procedure, but then, of course, TFix's install screen claims the opposite, saying the changes are permanent and can only be undone by a fresh install of the game.
Also, seeing how "play this with original graphics" seems to be a popular thing these days, maybe such instruction scould be added to the stickied FAQ in this subforum. Just a suggestion.

download and install a fresh GOG build, done.

Voodoo's reply is snarky, but he is correct. Use a fresh GOG install, it comes with TFix Lite, which doesn't have all those """enhancements""".
You could also just remove the MODS folder from your Thief directory, but it won't fix the ugly meshes, and you'll also have textureless Constantine's sword... for some reason.

Meshes I think are in patches, but you will lose all fixed meshes, not just ones that have been T2-ified.
Constantine's Sword is textureless because the base game doesn't use a unique texture for it, Tfix provides that. Deleting the mesh results in you still having the game try to use a different texture but it doesn't have anywhere to get one from. If you delete everything in the meshes except the new Constantine Sword texture it'll work fine.

wouldn't it be easier to just not install TFix, if you don't want what it offers? as mentioned, the GOG build is perfectly capable of delivering the full experience, if you don't care about mods of any kind.

Ah, well, I was hoping there was a way without a reinstall, but I guess that's just the deal. Thanks for the help, everybody.
Let me ask, just to make sure I'm getting it right: if I make a fresh install of just the game itself and then install TFix Lite (rather than TFix), does that mean I'll still have the benefits of NewDark (specifically, the ability to run much larger and more complex maps) while retaining the original mashes?

if you have the game on GOG, all you have to do is download and install it.

someone on another board just mentioned the blood stain was changed from t1/g to the t2 blood but to be honest the upgrade blood is terrible,t1 had the best blood stains on ground=trace the Currier is the example
not sure why say better original things like blood stain would be in an upgrade when its obviously worse
they should have went item by item when doing it and got input on the choice that might be a bit more difficult to do
i also am not sure how many other textures would be considered worse for the upgrade but i am sure its more

also, ignoring all downwinder's posts completely is highly recommended.

Garrett really does like curry though.
