For fuck's sake I'm a mod in the T2X forum where you've also acted like a dumbass in the past. I wish someone would enlighten me as to the connection between my mod status in the smallest forum here, and your free pass to be an idiot.
This is the most retarded thread evar.

Oh, that's funny, because I've never posted in the T2X forum.

It wasn't too long ago that there was no such thing as Social Security. If you havn't planned for your future and saved something why should the government be entitled to bail you out? Take some fucking responsibility, go to college, get a job, and blah blah blah...
Spoken like a person who has yet meet any real adversity in their life. Would you be including the people who trusted Enron with their retirement savings, or who contracted a life altering disease in your list of deadbeats? It is not difficult for even hard working, independent people to find themselves in impossible situations. Your solitary predator theory reveals a certain paucity of compassion.
Humans are social animals. We have civilisation because we share the good and the bad. Culture preserves, refines and transmits knowledge. Societies share risks and benefits. We look after each other. It's called humanity.

Ah - my apologies, I'm getting you and ZylonBane mixed up. Must be the common inanity.

"no 'real' adversities" eh? Sounds like a radical facist if you ask me:rolleyes: keep in mind i'm somone on an internet forum that you probably don't know very well.
I agree whole heartedly with you in saying that
some people really are unfortunate and genuinly need the governments help. I'm not quite sure why you're bringing this up though because these cases arn't all that often, especially in light of your personal definition of adversity based on somone you know nothing about. But hey, keep on rockin in the free world man

If I recall correctly, you're under 20 and more than likely living at home while going to FIT; your personal definition of adversity is around the level of complaining that you have to take your little brother to the dentist. You don't have 4 kids and are living on welfare and you aren't 70 and having to choose between getting pills and eating cat food.
Oh, and the former example could describe the 40,000 or so families made homeless by Katrina or the latter could describe the millions of elderly without adequate healthcare. "Aren't all that often" can hardly apply in these cases and it could hardly apply to the examples Nicker gave. There are 92,000 people on the waiting list for an organ alone (not counting any other kind of significant disease or condition), and Enron employed 21,000 people.

First: apologies, I forgot a word in my first post. I didn't mean that.
A note on cop beatings: as much as someone can deserve to be beaten, it's still wrong. If a lone cop (were at the movies) gets in a fight, I expect him to defend himself and the people around, but I can't agree with 3 cops beating a guy that's resisting arrest, but already hand-cuffed. Cops are supposed to have tasers and/or techniques to subdue opponents. Whacking it in the head with a stick is illegal.
Also: maybe in US cities there are many surveillance cameras, but the odd chance that a beating is recorded to tape makes it LOOK like there might be a lot more events that go underground. But I hope that every police department takes measures so it doesn't happen.
Finally, I'm all for people taking responsibility and saving money, but there are those odd cases when they get unlucky and lose everything. I can't bring myself to say 'well it's your fault if you got scammed'. I don't know in the US, but here the revenue aid the elderly get at 65 is conditional to you not having savings. Eg. You worked for a high pay all your life and put much into savings; you're not eligible to government aid because what you can get from your retirement plan is enough to keep a decent living.
I'm losing my train of thought so I'll stop here.

There's a Doctoral Thesis lurking somewhere in the metatext of this thread.
