Yes, I play a retarded mage. So dumb is this mage, that he spent hours in the wilderness blasting trees and small bugs with fireballs until his destruction skill almost maxed out. Meanwhile, every other mage skill remains 45 - and every minor skill, with the exception of athletics and acrobatics (Pangolin likes jumping up mountains and the stairs leading up to silt strider platforms), remains below 10, which makes merchants a nightmare to deal with without extremely lengthy processes of cultivation and persuasion.
Would any other adventureres have some ideas as to how this mage might boost his skills, and even get involved in things like alchemy or enchanting, without spending too many hours casting repeated spells?
Pangolin goes back to decimating Vvardenfall's treetop populations...

Training, if you are willing to pay for it. Otherwise, the best option is to just roleplay the character, and use the skills that you want increased.
Levels don't really matter, so just play the game and level up whenever.

Think you might have jinxed yourself with your choice of name there, friend :)

Retarded mages are cool! As said before, pay for training, or, just stumble around Morrowind looking for a fight. You may die, but the rewards are great.

Fightings are the best source for experience. Unfortunatly they are the only useful source to gain experience unless you want to do that legal cheating called training. :sly:
Of course that if you dont build your wizard to have the maximum of 450 spell points you may has well forget about being a wizard.
You would not want to have 50 max. spell points and be limited to only one or two fireballs in a fight would ya ? :weird:

The only way to effectively level your character in any understandable amount of time, unfortunately, is training.
So, go out and collect money then train. Praise MW and it's leveling system!

you could use cheats to up your level. it is against some peoples game ethics, but if you really made an uninformed choice and are now miserable, cheats (used sparingly) can fix a bad game.

You can train a wizard without requiring cheats or abusing of training if you build your character well. When the devs play tested the wizard char they didnt cheated.
Paying for training is not a cheat like i was joking about. But people dont need to pay for training to build a wizard which is what we are talking about in this thread.
I am not discussing the usefulness of training here but before you claim that games are bad and you are forced to use training make shure its not the way you play it.
If the guy wants to play a wizard he has to start well by building a decent wizard. The most critical factor is to have a high mana pool, and in Morrowind raising int first.
Chose a class that has 1.5x or 3x int in spell points and then chose a sign that increases the mana pool like the Atronach. The maximum MP can get to 450 and will become 150 for a starting wizard with 50 int.
Stunted magik is not a problem since he can make potions to fill his mana poll and weakness to magic can be avoided by creating enchanted items that protect from magic.

Cheers guys, but how do I find out which is my spell points?
Skronk on 17/11/2002 at 13:01
Your spell points are shown on the the blue bar. When you enter inventory, you also get the actual number.
How many sp you have is based on a multiplier from race and sign bonuses applied to your intelligence stat. The manual should list what those are. :)
For example, I'm playing a breton mage (.5xInt magicka bonus) under the sign of the Atronach (2.0xInt magicka bonus) giving me a total of 2.5xInt bonus + the direct effect of Intelligence, giving me a total of 3.5xInt spell points. Currently, I have all kinds of enchanted clothing and such, and my Int is at 200. That gives me 700 magicka. :D
