AllPeers is an intergrated bittorrent plugin that is due to be released soon for firefox. There seems to be a fair bit of optimism on the net regarding this. TechCrunch even going so far as to make a prediction about it being a "killer-app"; although Opera have also included P2P as an inbuilt feature in their version 9 browser apparently. With the imminent release of IE7, it will important for the underdog browsers to continue to distinguish themselves from Microsoft's software. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Christ I've been waiting quite a while for this - it's been bigged up enormously.

Sounds ok, but it's going to have to be seriously cool and have a ton of features for me to switch from Azureus.

It's not a BT client. It's a file sharing application that happens to use the BT protocol, but with a different feature set.

Sounds like it ought to be a stand-alone application rather than a Firefox extension.

Agreed. When someone comes up with a slimmed-down, non-cross-platform, (
http://www.utorrent.com/) uTorrent-ish version, my ears will prick up. Firefox already takes up a sizable chunk of memory as it is.
On the other hand, if this blows up, it could be the beginnings of a secure, decentralized internet. BT+1! Maybe.

AllPeers is up and running and I managed to get on as a beta tester O_o. Looks pretty good so far but I'll need to have a real good look at it....Old dog, new tricks!!
Any one else got into the test stages?

I'm completely unfamiliar with the torrent scene, so I have to ask: what is it usually used for? Exchange of personal files (photos, documents, etc.)? Distribution of shareware and game demos? Or (theoretically illegal) distribution of games/movies/music?
