But, I still like PT and Opeth....so nee ner nee ner.
I think Porcupine Tree have really gone downhill with their last few albums. They used to be a nice wuss band and they were good at it. Now they're still a wuss band but with lots of fake overproduced guitars and terrible lyrics and it all sounds kinda silly.
Opeth rock though, always have.

Ha.. Dream Theater. How many men have a pony tail here?
PS - until I accidentally saw some of Sunn-O)), Tool were hands down the most annoying band I've ever watched live.
PPS - I actually like a lot of Mastodon. Does that make me a hypocrite?

C'mon Piglick, we need to see you with this LaBrie, get the camera out bud! :ebil:

Look at it this way: When it comes to prog bands, you've got your choice of LaBrie, Geddy Lee, or Jon Anderson
What about the 31,337 prog artists who aren't utterly gay? I like the original Yes lineup and everything, but christ, Jon isn't even the best prog musician with his own surname.

No, because Mastodon
rock the fuck out. And sing about Moby Dick, which helps.

Yes Vivian. Men with ponytails clearly have no taste in music. (No I don't have a ponytail ;) )
Jason - I was actually referring to prog artists that actually sell albums and have a mentionable fan base. We might include Spock's Beard or even Marillion and the Flower Kings in that list, but that's reeeeeaaaallly stretching it. Is Mastatdon considered prog? I guess Tool *could* be, but despite their unconventional time sigs and song length, doesn't it seem like they're essentially pulling falling back on grunge and metal trappings the majority of the time? Most of the aforementioned prog bands (Yes, Rush, probably King Crimson) defined the genre by pulling from classical, jazz, and even world music influences. All I hear in Tool is really sophisticated metal. Great band though, even if it's become popular to dislike them now.

I still like listening to Tool every now and then, I've just got incredibly bored both times I've seen them live. They obviously like all of their 'looping phrase for ever' bits as much as they like the bits where they kick some balls, whereas I only like the latter. And they only do it maybe twice per show. Ponytails was out of interest - Symphony X was a fucking sea of them, and I hadn't seen a mantail for about three years previous to that. I wondered if it went with the territory. Mind you, only bona-fide Dream Theater fan I know in person is a bald venezualan palaeontologist called Carlos (prog metal and sauropods, sheesh. Good job he's already married), so maybe I'm wrong.

Ah. I must have missed the King Crimson mention amid the sea of gaye.
