Look at it this way: When it comes to prog bands, you've got your choice of LaBrie, Geddy Lee, or Jon Anderson (shutup Porcupine Tree is not a proper prog band.). LaBrie wins by about 700 long shots.

My God Porcupine Tree suck balls. What about Damo Suzuki? Or recent prog bands like The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, or Tool (crazy time signatures = prog apparently)?

You
looooove him. You want to
kiiiiiss him.
Crazy time signatures = prog? No. Tool is to prog what J.K.Rowland is to fantasy epics. A nice introduction.

Although I am a tool fan, I really don't give a fuck whether they are considered prog or not. But just for argument's sake, I would have thought said time signatures, combined with long songs with plenty of dynamic changes (third eye, lateralus), and a concept album to boot (lateralus is a concept album) would make them pretty proggy. Also the effort that is required on the fan's side to really get into the music seems to be a common trait amongst many prog bands.

Oooh, when did this turned into an RPG thread?, we haven't had those in a while (at least one that people didn't started to crap over it).
Carry on, my little sausages.
