Well this is off topic, but I decided to try out Dungeon Seige while waiting for Arx. Oh my lord what a piece of crap. Anyone played this thing? It is so bad I felt sorry for the developers who wasted all their time on this junk. All you do is walk down a premapped path and kill literally thousands of monsters...oh and drink potions. Atleast Diablo had a cool story, and you go to hell.
Thank god I just d\l'd it instead of actually buying the festering pile of crap.
STAY AWAY from this game.

No, I wouldn't waste my cash either. However, I'll probably buy it when one of those Ultima remakes using the engine gets completed.

Lol. I should probably get the game, since I am (theoretically) working on 1 of the Ultima remakes... (VII). I might just enjoy it as well, since I do play Diablo II a lot.

There are a lot of good things about the game. Unfortunately almost none of them help the gameplay any. The engine is very robust, and the whole "streaming world" technology is great. I think the "innovations" (so to speak) in the user-friendliness of the game, such as not drinking full potions and an auto-pickup key are great ideas too. I think way too many games make the player perform many unnecessary tasks that make it tedious. I like the skill based advancement, and I think the way the characters level is good. The interface is very streamlined too. All in all, not bad.
The sad thing is, despite all of these arguably good things, this game doesn't feel fun to play through. It feels like a chore. It's hack & slash (& cast too) all the way. Which would be fine if there were some strategy to playing the game. If it were more tactical, it might be fun. If there were a really damn good story to uncover, then it might be more gratifying. But the story sucks. It's funny, for as many people who say "Don't let any story get in the way of my Hack & Slash," if there were a really deep, gratifying story, it would make up for the shallow gameplay. If there were some characters I cared about, it might make up for it. If the gameplay were less linear, it might work. The sad thing? I finished the game because I didn't have anything else to play. And it wasn't fun. With so many good ideas, it should have been. But the lack of real gameplay killed it.

Hmm, I played the Dungeon Seige demo and am picking it up first chance I get.. It does have a very hack and slashy feel to it, but the fact it comes with an editor and has such a great skill system (I hated Diablo II's), makes it fun for me. And unlike Arx, the demo actually WORKS! ;)
Seriously tho I would love to do stuff with that editor, but with Morrowind around the corner, I will probably get Dungeon Seige, beat the hell out of it just in time for that to come out, and not get time to make anything with the editor. Pity that it didnt come out a month or so ago, the only other game I been playing is Dark Age of Campalot and that has been boring for the last few months.

Arx demo worked for me.
Unlike Dungeon Seige the Arx demo isn't boring repetitive junk.
You are joking about the skill system right? I never even noticed there was one... not a system anyways.
I don't think the editor is even out yet, not with the release anywho.
Might as well just go with Morrowind.
